I built my first PC yesterday and OC'd the CPU to 4.5Ghz. It idle's at an average of 40*c from all cores. Is this okay? My cooler is a Corsair H80. I ran Prime95 for about 30-40mins and it only went up to a maximum of 65*c with no crashes.
That is perfectly fine, don't worry about it.
Thanks for the reply, you've put my mind at rest.
Hey Tomgun I'm getting my 2500K tomorrow, what kind of cooling are you using? I am getting a fairly standard cooler and I want to overclock too if I can. How exactly do you overclock it?
I'd recommend one of those huge ass fans with lots of heatpipes if you can get one, like the Coolermaster Hyper 212+. Overclocking is done in the BIOS.
I'm using the Corsair H80. But yeah get something that as Protocol said, something with HUGE fans. It's easy to overclock, all you have to do is go into the bios, CPU settings and then change the CPU ratio, for example 45 (45x100 = 4500Mhz aka 4.5Ghz.) I then changed my CPU voltage to approximatley 1.35V.
