Here I will be posting all the fun stuff I do as I haul ass through the magical world of art. Mostly I'm making this thread to keep myself accountable for everyday practice. Maybe it'll have other purposes? Time will tell. Good stuff, keep it up.
Hey people, so today I wanted to do some anatomy/proportions practice. At first I tried doing the 8 heads method through a Scyra video but I just didn't really see the utility of it. I also didn't understand some of the ways he was explaining things, I guess, and he kept referencing earlier videos that I hadn't watched yet. Then I went on to grab full body photos off google images, draw skeletons over them, and then make both them and the drawn-over skeleton invisible and try to draw it again with no reference. [t]http://i.imgur.com/qi1j0.png[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/J1fwy.png[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/UdXEz.png[/t] Sorry it's not very visible from the thumbnails, I worked lightly. Also, storytime motherfuckers. I have this friend at Drexel University who's been telling me about an annoying kid on his floor. You know how you have to invite vampires into your home for them to be able to come in? Well, this guy apparently only comes in when UNINVITED, and proceeds to fuck with your computer (changes your Skype language to Chinese and your browser homepage to porn for example). Hence my friend called him Reverse Dracula.

Did some Posemaniacs today, but spent half the time just getting adjusted. [t]http://i.imgur.com/8XmsA.png[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/8nc1o.png[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/fSOL8.png[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/AU38t.png[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/d0lEo.png[/t] I'm thinking I should make this a daily thing, at least for a while, and then do some studies on the side (both full body and focusing on individual body parts).
All I had time to make today was a comic for the college newspaper. :I I felt kinda obligated because I haven't made one in a while ... because my schedule is a clusterfuck ... WHICH I WHY I DIDN'T HAVE MUCH TIME TODAY. Full circle. [t]http://i.imgur.com/nAXuH.png[/t] But I might as well show ya'll another one I made before. [t]http://i.imgur.com/OI5N1.png[/t] Coincidentally same format. I swear they're not all like this.

Finally, I love your stuff.

I actually looked at Loomis's figure-drawing book before I started doing this, but I felt like it was a bit beyond me. This too? [editline]4th November 2012[/editline] It's a great tool to learn basics and stuff, even though it may look silly it got great knowledge in it.

[t]http://i.imgur.com/nfNMU.png[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/rHNm0.png[/t] My tablet's been wonky, so I've been mostly drawing on paper. I may take some pics at some point.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/RxMrl.jpg[/t] Didn't define the shapes enough in the sketch, gonna try again.
I like how the metals are defined, especially around the eyes.
Bumping w/ recent artwork. [t]http://i.imgur.com/rPiej.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/0Xtq8.png[/t]
I love all your stuff, even this more realistic art.

You know, you don't seem to use perspective much, but when you do it's always some oblique-ish thing like this. The lines here, if you extend them, don't converge to a vanishing point. They aren't parallel either. Maybe you could try painting bigger for starters (this will make it much easier) and try out some more interesting angles with more vanishing points and various orientations.

You should focus less on getting all those joint circles in and focus more on the flow of the pose. Using big curvacious lines is much better at capturing the movement of the figure than playing connect the dots with joints. [editline]16th December 2012[/editline] Once you get the hang of it, figure drawing is probably the easiest and most entertaining aspect of drawing. No reason to be afraid of it.
I mostly do it to get a sense of proportions though, like length of torso compared to forearm, etc. Drawing the joints seems like the most natural thing for that.
But the thing is that your proportions aren't very good either in a lot of your drawings. You're getting too caught up in relationships and relativities and all that mechanical junk that you loose sight of the figure as a whole.
