Do people still think bitcoin mining can be made for-profit?
I love the parallels between the gold rush and Bitcoin mining. Other than a few early adopters, by and large the people who got rich were those who sold Bitcoin mining equipment rather than the miners themselves.

ASIC are where its at. Minning with CPU and GPU are far less profitable (if at all).

It hasn't been profitable for years unless you have plenty of specialized hardware and cheap electricity.
People have moved onto cryptocurrencies like Ethereum or Monero if they want to mine using a GPU and still turn a profit.

Pretty sure the people selling the ASIC Bitcoin miners are still turning a bigger profit than the people buying them.
TIL Biostar still exists

With early ASICs you'd even run into the issue of them becoming obsolete before they turned a profit. The hardware sellers are the only ones that won.
