For starters, my specs are-
CPU- AMD Phenom 9950
MB- AM2 MSI K9A2CF-F V2 S/GBL
GPU- GTX260 896MB CORE 216
RAM- DDR2 2GB (2 of them)
HD- SATAII 500GB SEAGATE 7200/16M
PS- AGI 550W (Tried replacing with a 600W Thermaltake- didn't work, doesn't really fit the case either)
It suddenly turned off one night and never came back on- trying to do so results in the CPU fan spinning for roughly half a second then stopping (nothing else happens in the computer other than that.) For it to do that again, I'd have to unplug everything and turn off the PSU, wait about 10 minutes, and do it again.
I was told by a friend it was the PSU- so I went out and bought the thermaltake, had that hooked up, and the same thing happened. Now they said it's most likely the motherboard.
When I -did- look inside of it (this wasn't built by me, we had it custom built at a shop) my brother found two metal plugs hanging out, and thinks they short-circuited the computer (he took the GPU to test it).
If I'm missing any info do tell, our plan was to take it back to the shop, or just take out every component one-by-one to decide...
Where are the plugs that fell out and what do they look like?

They were on the side of the case, they were in some plastic thing that held 4 pins, connecting to the fan by the hard-drive. The pins inside the plug were evidently very easily removed from it, and one of them had 2 of the 4 just hanging out of it.
If needed I can take a picture of the plug/pins in it.
That's just a fan power cable, shouldn't stop your computer booting.
i had the same problem with a computer i tryed every thing and all i did was look in a previouse thread and found out that reseating the cpu can fix it sometimes takeing the cpu out and putting it back in it fixed my problem
Most probably the motherboard. Just to completely rule it out (it's probably very redundant), try taking out the CMOS battery and put it in again, I've seen computers act weirdly with a dying or dead CMOS battery. AM2 motherboards are pretty cheap, and you might be lucky that nothing else is wrong.
it seems that the motherboard was the main problem, so we'll just have to look into getting a new one-
anyone have any ideas for a certain one?
Just get a cheap one, you won't like to use much money on that rig: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157204
Alternatively, save some money for a new rig.

Pop in your windows disk and run a repair. Windows is sometimes moody when you change motherboards.

yeah, i googled around and this was the most common response, found the disk(and had to convert it to a USB because it was being a bitch about it) I used, but im just gonna have to install it without formatting the drive then just copy the files I need off windows.old.
assuming that'll work.

You have to reinstall Windows when you've changed fundamental components like that.
