The Pakistani Taliban's number two commander has been promoted to leader after its previous chief Hakimullah Mehsud was killed in a US drone strike.
Khan Said, also known as Sajna, now heads the militant group following a meeting of the supreme ruling council, according to security officials.
However, some commanders were reportedly unhappy with the choice and wanted more talks.
The move comes as the fallout from the strike continues to grow, with Pakistan summoning the American ambassador to register a protest.
I guess it looks good to put a face on the organization when you have the problem of its leadership being killed off constantly.
Maybe they should keep this stuff a secret.
maybe the problem isn't finding out who, but where.
Where does the hair end and the beard begin?
maybe the problem isn't finding out who, but where.
You can't find where without knowing who.
You can't find where without knowing who.
What if finding out who is really really easy though? Could also just be a flatout lie, never really know.
As a member of the Taliban, you rank up faster than a no-lifer in Battlefield
maybe the problem isn't finding out who, but where.
lol that's not difficult. The US Government already knows the daily whereabouts of every key player in that regime. It's more a matter of waiting for the stars to align such that a strike can happen than anything else.
Leader of the week.
Wow, facepunch is full of funny people~~
A Pakistani government minister said the strike by an unmanned aircraft on Friday had destroyed attempts to hold peace talks with the militants which began this week.
Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, the interior minister, said: "This is not just the killing of one person, it's the death of all peace efforts."
His sentiments were echoed by the former cricketer turned politician Imran Khan, who threatened to block lorries carrying supplies to Nato troops in Afghanistan unless the attacks stop. "Dialogue has been broken with this drone attack," said Khan.

But the US was never likely to turn down an opportunity to kill Mehsud, the mastermind of a devastating suicide bomb attack on a CIA station in Khost province in eastern Afghanistan in 2009 in which seven CIA officers died.
The ingenious plot involved a Jordanian triple agent who the CIA believed was working for them but was in fact taking orders from Mehsud.
The suicide bomber was ushered into the military base to brief CIA officers on al-Qaida, and detonated his explosive vest once he was inside.
In a video filmed before the attack and released afterwards, Mehsud appeared alongside the Jordanian, who said the attack was in retribution for the death of his fellow tribesman and predecessor as Pakistani Taliban leader, Baitullah Mehsud, who was killed in a US drone strike in August 2009.

According to the Long War Journal, as of mid-2011, the drone strikes in Pakistan since 2006 had killed 2,018 militants and 138 civilians.[134] The New America Foundation stated in mid-2011 that since 2004 2,551 people have been killed in the strikes, with 80% of those militants. The Foundation stated that 95% of those killed in 2010 were militants.[19] and that, as of 2012, 15% of the total people killed by drone strikes were either civilians or unknown. The foundation also states that in 2012 the rate of civilian and unknown casualties was 2 percent, whereas the Bureau of Investigative Journalism say the rate of civilian casualties for 2012 is 9 percent.[135]
The Bureau of Investigative Journalism, based on extensive research in mid-2011, claims that at least 385 civilians were among the dead, including more than 160 children.[24]

It is stated in a Bureau of Investigative Journalism (BIJ) report that of all the drone attack victims since 2004, more than 76% of the dead fall in the legal grey zone, 22% are confirmed civilians (included 5% minors) and only the remaining 1.5% are high-profile targets.[32] A classified Pakistani government report obtained in July 2013 by the BIJ shows details of 75 drone strikes that occurred between 2006-09. According to the 12-page report, in this period alone, 176 of the 746 reported dead were civilians, with a further 200 regarded as probable non-combatants.[33]
Not sure what's funny about all this shit your government is doing that you're paying for.
Could have saved time and named his successor too.
"Our next successor is Barack Obama! All the previous leaders were blown up by drone strikes...so...you know...we figured we'd give it a shot. No? Dammit."
Sounds like its a punishment to be the next leader of the Taliban. You get sentenced to be leader. Instead of being stoned to death.
Maybe if you live long enough, you're forgiven.

oh shit, if congress can threaten to bomb the rules of the senate over judge nominations, i can't imagine how these guys threaten each other. also did we just create political gridlock in the taliban?

they usually entail less fili and more busting.
Khan said you should all go blow yourselves up. :suicide:

Sooner or later cracks had to appear in the Taliban anyway. This constantly moving line of succession is going to throw up a shit candidate at some point which could end up destroying them from the inside.
Looks like Liam Neeson in Clash of The Titans.
