So I applied for state college a while back and got denied. I was wondering what could of caused it?? My gpa is a 2.7, and Im on pace to graduate this year. The only thing I can think of that caused me to get denied would have to be my SAT scores which weren't high enough. So if I retake my SAT and score better, would they accept me?
The college may have had too many applicants. It happens.
2.7 GPA isn't considered to be good to a lot of colleges. Also, each individual university has its own unique set of grades, test scores, hours of extracurricular activities, etc. that it looks for when accepting a student. Your collective application may not have been high enough for this specific college, where as you would be accepted at other colleges based on the same application of information.
Did you even take your ACT?....
Forget about retaking the SAT, go take the COMPASS. Much easier. I failed the ACT, I would have gotten all remedial classes if they went by those scores, but then I took the COMPASS and got all college level classes. Also, that GPA is pretty low for a lot of colleges as the guy above me said. Might want to try a community college if you can't get into state. I never took the SAT because my counselor told me to just do the ACT because I was taking a more math/science major.

I don't want to see community college as an option. Also ASU accepts people with 2.4 gpa's. I really want to get into university and I'm starting to panic sadly.
You don't need to graduate high school to go to some community colleges.
Which makes them a wonderful safety net if you sucked ass in high school. If you can dominate a community college, get your basic core classes done, you can get into pretty much any school with a major.

Start your own college called South Harmon Institute of Technology.
My gpa is a 2.7
Found your problem. If your GPA isn't above a 3, i'd apply for a job either selling crack, pumping gas or digging ditches.
1. Your GPA is basically an average of a C, 2.7 isn't very good. 2. What outside of school activities have you done? Any clubs or services? Colleges look for that stuff a lot.
If you score well on your ACT your GPA importance will go down.
I didn't think you could reapply to college after they denied you?
Some places focus more on class rank than GPA, it depends on the state. I know that the top 10% of a class are automatically admitted to most Texas State Colleges. What is the 2.7 out of?
What's wrong with community colleges? 2 years of that, then transfer out to a state college. Build up that application.
go to a community college for a year or two and get a gpa of at least 3.0 and they won't bother with your high school scores.

Some GPA's can go anywhere from 4 to 6 to more in some states/school districts.
There's nothing wrong with JC's. They allow you to go to school usually nearby while still living at home or in a similar situation and still keep a part time job. Take it from me, stay with your folks and save money as long as possible, the real world sucks out here. I went to JC for 2 1/2 years, then went into a 4 year at UCDavis as a Junior. Almost like I was there those 2 years. It's really the same thing. Also an associates of science got me job promotions while I was going to a 4 year. Now I have a freaking bachelors, live 2 states away from where I wanted to be, lost my job, having a baby in one month, and need to run back to CA to go back to school cause everyone has a bachelor's.
What's wrong with community colleges? 2 years of that, then transfer out to a state college. I'd get the 2.7 up to at least a 3. That way, you'll be a B student. Also, why not consider going to a junior college and then transfer your credits to another college for your junior and senior year? That's what I plan on doing. Mostly because junior college is less expensive and I think the requirements to get in aren't as high.
I don't know, I feel like an idiot not being accepted, though I think I'm actually smarter than what tests percieve me as.. Also about the gpa, how do you explain people with 2.4 gpa's getting accepted into the college? I read on the College website that you had to have 1 of 3 things: 3.0 GPA in competency courses (4.0 = A) ACT 22 (24 nonresidents)* SAT Reasoning 1040 (1110 nonresidents)*-Not counting the reading portion of the test. The SAT is my only option as of now which I am going to take a class for this time.
