• Nova Scotia Film Industry F**ed by Tax Credit Cut
A Moncton-based producer, who recently moved two productions from New Brunswick to Nova Scotia, says the Nova Scotia government has doomed its film and television industry with cuts announced in Thursday's provincial budget. Nova Scotia slashed the film industry tax credit to 25 per cent refundable, from 100 per cent. Frank Savoie, president of Connections Productions, says his two variety show productions will be shot before the change in Nova Scotia comes into effect on July 1. But he says several big name shows that have been shot in that province won't be there for long. "The initial reaction, and I tend to concur, is that it's the end of the industry in Nova Scotia," said Savoie. "I mean, they have literally, effectively killed it. You know, projects like the Trailer Park Boys, like This Hour has 22 Minutes, Haven, Call Me Fitz — all of those big series they've been doing for years, they're going to have to move, they've have no choice."
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunswick/nova-scotia-film-industry-doomed-by-tax-credit-cut-moncton-producer-says-1.3027861
The new Trailer Park Boys seasons :(
Actual estimates said that for every dollar Nova Scotia puts into the tax credit they only get 25 cents back. It's not worth our provinces money when we are this far in debt. 10% of our budget goes to paying the interest on our loans, we need to run a surplus to fix that.
yeah to be fair a 100% tax deductability is basically unjustifiable
Horrible, love Trailer park boys.
Oh, so that's why Global announced a consolidation of their news stuff...
That really s**ks for shows being shot there.
Yeah it sucks but it's not sustainable with their current economic problems so they had to make changes.
Another disappointment for this place :(
The new Trailer Park Boys seasons :(
implying they had a budget more than the homeless guy down the road
at least trailer park boys had a really solid run 9 seasons, all of them arguably pretty good, is a very good run
at least trailer park boys had a really solid run 9 seasons, all of them arguably pretty good, is a very good run
Sunnyvale will probably move somewhere else.
that plus the end of season 9 is perfect [sp]it's basically a good happy ending with the chance of another season. everyone got what was coming to them and there aren't any cliff hanger. If the show died now it'd be pretty perfect[/sp]
So what am I hearing here? Anything less then a 100% tax deduction (ie zero taxes) and the film industry is decimated? A bit hard to take a group serious when they say nonsense like that...
apparently a decent amount of FPers live in this shithole i bet i walk by you nerds every day... you're the ugly ones aren't you?

Oh my fuck boys, i bet this is another one of fucking Lahey's shitplans
I'm pretty sure a lot of this was suspicions on thx ad global just using the credit to dodge taxes elsewhere in the world and not actually having that much work done here. 100% tax cut was just a total shitshow for a province that has no other real practical economy. The boys probably won't be affected. It isn't exactly high budget and they're used to the 15% gst, so slighty less on their refund probably ain't gonna be such a huge hit. Notice how it's mostly the big names pulling out. I finally understand the weird obsession our high schools had with dropping practical skill courses to keep art classes goin strong. Facking tax dodging cronies [editline]13th April 2015[/editline] Buy some Keith's Bys and save us all from economic death, our shit ships ain't gonna start here anyways.
Sunnyvale will probably move somewhere else.
Maybe to Sunnyvale, California? :v:

Funny, I'm from Nova Scotia and was planning on heading out of province to do film work anyway. Guess this really sealed the deal.
we should meet up in a bar and awkwardly, snigger about that cat, sip cheap beer and avoid eye contact
entirely accurate

You're asking people to work 12-18 hour days 5-6 days a week, so the pay is pretty high as well as the film unions being fairly strong in their stance on workers getting good pay for their long hours and jobs that are filled with difficulties and irregularities and plenty of dangers. Factoring in equipment, which needs to be rented from somewhere local, stored somewhere local, driven by the local transpo union(I know there's a shorthand for that but for the life of me I can't remember right now), the cost of it is really far higher than people might realize. But yeah, it does seem a bit strange that their film industry would shut down entirely with anything less than 100%. BC's film industry has only just recovered after fixing our tax credit situation after the government broke it not too long ago and we're no where near that kind of discount and never were.
Where the fuck did all of you guys come from I remember it being a hassle trying to see if there were any other ns facepunchers at all
ns facepunchers hide in the woodwork, I've met a few that never really leave their main forums
entirely accurate
"s-so, y-y-you like pepe m-m-memes?"

The film industy can go choke on a dick if it thinks it was benefitting our economy. If they can't survive without being tax free ad subsidized they really shouldn't be around in the first place. Maybe we can make films when we have a practical economy to work with. Until then they're gonna have to pay taxes like the rest of us
