Google is set to acquire much sought-after Israeli navigation app startup Waze, after the two companies agreed in principle to most term, including a price tag exceeding $1 billion in cash, sources said Sunday.
I really hope they don't mess it up. I rely on Waze almost daily and it's an absolutely fantastic app.
Not sure where I stand with this. I use waze as my primary sat nav and it's great, although development is a bit slow. There are a few niggles I have with it which have been there for the 2 years I've been using it and they have never been fixed.
I guess if the app stays as good as it is now and improves, then I'm happy.
This will probably improve waze greatly. Google's nav on android phones has helped me many times when traditional nav devices led me in wrong directions.
I love Waze's crowd-sourced alert system, so really with this I'd like to either see Waze's features implemented into GNav, OR Waze brought up to speed with GNav but without dicking with already present and well liked features.
I knew this was gonna happen sooner or later :v:
Personally I think this is going to be great for the Waze app. Imagine Google Maps functionality plus the features of Waze.
Yeah, this is actually a wonderful thing. Waze is great and Google is well known for its maps. I'm excited.
.
Holy shit I forgot about that app. It's awesome.
I've never heard of this before. Can somebody tell me what I'm (apparently) missing out on?
It updates traffic in real time, based on input from users. Construction, accidents, broken street signs, broken traffic lights, whatever.
It's like Twitter + Google Maps, but not useless.
.
$1 Billion in cash
I love this app. They started with more obnoxious advertisements as of recently, but I guess now that Google will own it, they can do away with the ads and just gather mass amounts of user information :v:
$1 billion in cash.
$1,000,000,000 in cash.
Holy fuck that's a lot of zeroes.
