Computer Randomly Freezes and I recently Just Got 4GB of RAM

Well, title says it all. Most of it actually. My computer recently has been fucking up a lot, so my dad tried to help by taking out 1GB of RAM to leave me with only 1GB in order to see if that helps. It worked, so we were convinced that it was a RAM-related problem. So last week he put in 4GB of RAM and the hard drive I recently got for my birthday. He gave 30GB of hard drive space to Ubuntu and 30GB of hard drive space to Windows 7. But shortly after, my computer started to freeze again. I checked the error console and there were 16 unexpected shut downs. Thus meaning I restarted my computer after it froze 16 times. Some of this seems quite pointless but I guess all I am asking is why does my computer keep freezing?
On a side note, most of this has happened on youtube, and I spend most of my time on my computer on the internet and I browse the Videos And Flash Movies and That Kind of Crap forum a lot.

You had 2GB RAM and now you have 4GB. Did you add 2GB or put in new RAM sticks?
Have you run memtest, and checked out your slots?

I put in new RAM sticks. The last ones I had were Ballistix and the current ones I have are Adata.
