• Blizzard Axes Diablo III’s ‘Team Deathmatch’ PVP Mode
Diablo III's Team Deathmatch mode—shown off at a number of conventions and promised for the months following the game's launch earlier this year—has been axed, Blizzard says. The player vs. player feature just wasn't good enough, Diablo III lead designer Jay Wilson writes on Battle.net today: So, our core problem is that our Team Deathmatch mode doesn't feel like a great addition to Diablo III. It's not up to the quality that Blizzard gamers expect or that we feel you deserve, and it doesn't really fit with our goals for the rest of the game. The question now is what are we going to do about it? First and foremost, if our original goal was to support dueling, then we're not achieving that goal very well if we don't actually give players a way to duel in-game. You've been asking us for dueling for a while, so we're going to add it to the game soon. Dueling is currently scheduled to release with patch 1.0.7, which is set to hit sometime after the new year. (We'll be providing details about that feature very soon, so stay tuned.) But as I mentioned before, we are going back to the drawing board on a new replacement for Team Deathmatch, something that feels more appropriate for Diablo III. And as we stated previously, regardless of when we release it, it'll be a free addition to the game. Team Deathmatch provided us with the foundation that we needed and served us well. Hell, it may even still be added in some form in the future. For now, though, we're going to first be looking at new modes that play up to the strengths of the character classes, focus on objectives beyond just defeating other players, and possibly even integrate PvE elements and rewards. God it's like diablo 3's development all over again...
I speak for everyone I think when I say fuck Blizzard and fuck Kotick.
Oh Blizzard. One of the most overrated developers. They're truely an amazing development team. They're just so lazy. And they can get away with it because of World of Warcraft.
it's kinda sad, like watching an animal wither around in hopes of staying alive, but knowing it has no chance to survive
it's kinda sad, like watching an animal wither around in hopes of staying alive, but knowing it has no chance to survive
If you're talking about Blizzard as a studio, Activision has no hand in running it. It's a joint partnership and activision is basically the publisher and they get a cut of it.
Man it's been 7 months and I'm still pissed at myself for not waiting to see how the game turned out before running to the store and buying it, I guess that's what brand loyalty gets you.
Hell, it may even still be added in some form in the future.
What's the big deal? At least they're going to get a 1v1 mode out and not just going "wow PVP is shit in this well we're going to stop now"
On the one hand, it's pretty shitty how they hyped up and have presented team deathmatch PVP for a year only to drop communcation for the months following release and just now tell us it has been cut. On the other hand, if it actually didn't add much to the game and they still plan on adding PVP as a free addition at some point, I'm okay with that. I'd rather wait for a better game than get a shitty one sooner.

Oh yeah, Diablo 3 exists, I forgot.
it's kinda sad, like watching an animal wither around in hopes of staying alive, but knowing it has no chance to survive
I don't especially like Diablo 3, but it's silly to say something like that after it sold a ton (like about 10 million) copies since it's launch. Blizzard is safe for many many years.
I mean I'm glad I made $160 off diablo 3 before it got boring and everyone started quitting and duping started happening and yea.
Oh Blizzard. One of the most overrated developers. They're truely an amazing development team. They're just so lazy. And they can get away with it because of World of Warcraft.
They aren't lazy, they are just very slow and methodical, and build their designs to cold, calculating, mathematical boundaries of player time investment. The benefits of this is that when you do eventually get content, it's extraordinarily well polished and for the most part genuinely good. The downsides is that you frequently see designs or mechanics developed to 90% fruition and then thrown out the door or indefinitely shelved. Any WoW player that has been playing since the 60 days can testify that the Blizzard style of making games and communicating their ideas to the player is nothing if not occasionally frustrating.
that was a advertised feature.
I regret buying Diablo 3 to this day
Most wasted 60$ ever, really.
that was a advertised feature.
PVP yes, specifically the team deathmatch they have demoed, no.
I regret buying Diablo 3 to this day
I don't think I regret it, I got like 60-80 hours of it when it came out which is pretty good for a game these days. I wouldn't ever touch it again though, no amount of PvP game modes would.

I got 120 hours out of it myself so even if I never play it again, from a sheer time spent playing ratio I got far more than I do out of most of my $60 purchases. It just didn't hold me as long as Diablo 2 or even Titan Quest. Though Torchlight 2 and Path of Exile bored in me in beta so maybe I'm just sick of the genre.
If I were Blizzard, I'd be axing forgiveness now. [SUB]Sorry.[/SUB]
They are coming up with a replacement, but it'll be ages until that ships.
Jay Wilson is a fucking idiot.
That's blizzard for you. People have been asking for clan support in starcraft 2 since release and they are still saving it until the expansion.
Blizzard has been shit for a long while now.
torchlight 2 here i come...
I have no problem with this.
torchlight 2 here i come...
Played the beta, got bored in about 30 minutes, didn't actually beat it. Most of my friends bought it and no one played it for more than 12 hours, which I guess is okay for a $20 title but I'd expect an ARPG to last a bit longer.
