I told you this wasn't over yet. MSNBC (Local, ktuu) Judge halts certification of Alaska Senate race [release]A federal judge has ordered the certification of Alaska's Senate race halted if Republican Joe Miller files a lawsuit in state court by Monday. U.S. District Judge Ralph Beistline says Miller's complaint about the interpretation of election law - and how it pertains to write-in ballots - is a state matter. He said that if Miller files a lawsuit in state court on or before Monday, the results of the race should not be certified until the legal issues raised have been fully resolved. [/release] http://www.ktuu.com/news/ktuu-judge-halts-certification-of-a-111910,0,21952.story FOX Miller Not Calling It Quits http://video.foxnews.com/v/4427594/miller-not-calling-it-quits/ More on this as it develops.
<snip>
What exactly is the election law in question about? Yes, write in ballots, I read that. But I mean what about them?
Isn't that just a local NBC? Anyways, why is he wanting to file a lawsuit? The blurb doesn't make it clear. also, lol @ difference in headlines
in other words, the race HAS NOT been halted yet
Yes, we got that. Don't need to keep harping about this minor detail that has no real significance.
I guess it was delayed. I read another news article that had more info: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/20/us/politics/20alaska.html
A federal judge in Alaska on Friday placed a conditional hold on the certification of the results of the contentious Senate race between Joe Miller and Senator Lisa Murkowski, telling the Miller campaign to take its legal challenges to state court. But I mean what about them?
joe miller's opponent won by write in ballot, but he has sand in his vagina and wants the election to halt because Murkowski was slightly spelled wrong in the write in. yeah, he wants the election to NOT count because of the spelling
Glaber needs to read the articles before posting them
And you need to not care about the thread title and actually contribute to the topic instead.
I told you this wasn't over yet.
It is over come on [editline]19th November 2010[/editline] the fat lady sung like a week ago
You'd think that, but her singing was off key and she has to get that fixed. Last I've heard, part of this is about the write in ballots that misspelled Mercowskie's Name. If that was a write in vote in Alaska, I not entire sure that it would even be counted.
Even discounting those she had a lead, if I remember correctly. Also, she's a republican glaber, why don't you like her?

"Oh damn it, I meant to vote for Miller but I accidentally voted for some Merzowski!" Anyone that would affect would have already planned on voting for Mercowski.
I read she still would win if the ballots not spelled correctly were not counted.
Even discounting those she had a lead, if I remember correctly. Also, she's a republican glaber, why don't you like her?
She's a sore looser. That's why she even ran as a Write-in and why I don't like her. to me, when she lost the primary and decided to run as a write-in, that basically told me she thinks she knows better than everyone.
Joe Miller seems like more of a sore loser now.
Maybe, but he at least said he was going to do this before the election if this happened where as Mercowski's move was more like an upset child reacting to a bad Preschool class room vote and the Teacher caved.
I like Lisa better because she didn't arrest a journalist for no good reason.

Just because someone loses a primary doesn't mean they should just give up. Hell, despite disagreeing with her completely, I support the fact she won through write in. Anything to buck the 2 party system is good in my book.

Meanwhile, Joe said this
The first thing that has to be done is secure the border. . . East Germany was very, very able to reduce the flow. Now, obviously, other things were involved. We have the capacity to, as a great nation, secure the border. If East Germany could, we could.
Which is pretty confusing on multiple levels.

If a more reasonable people gets shut out of an increasingly wingnut, extremist party, and manages to defeat their selected candidate through 3rd party means, that's wonderful. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lisa_Murkowski Lol Glaber's been misspelling her name, ironic. And she has some shitty policies on energy and oil, but still. Yay non two party means.
First time was on purpose. I don't mind write-in's when their reason doesn't sound like "You stupid idiots didn't vote for me so I'm going to run as a write in!" People don't like being called stupid. Also I don't live in Alaska, I live in a different state.

And maybe that's what it just sounds like to you, it would seem more like "If you want to shut me out for not embracing the wingnut fringe, well ok, i'll court the moderates." And win, apparently.
Jesus fucking christ this is like arguing with a brick wall
Guessing. What you said sounds more valid though, Xen.
That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard in an election issue.
His campaign is going to argue it regardless, based on what they say are principles of voter intent and Alaskan state statues stipulating that the votes must be as clear and unambiguous as possible. So they're going to challenge ballots that according to them, should be disqualified (say Mirkowski). It is indeed stupid but to him and the Tea Party this is a rather humiliating defeat they don't want to take.
Really? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lisa_Murkowski
Miller was the Tea Party approved candidate- with a lot of help from Sarah Palin. Palin and Murkowski have a tense rivalry, I daresay hatred really. Murkowski comes from a political family of sorts in Alaska, and Palin managed to beat her father- Frank Murkowski- in the gubernatorial election that made her governor of Alaska in the first place. The two never saw eye to eye. So naturally when time came they put her in the sights for elimination, for being "RINO" or too close to Washington, what ever could be said, and put the TEA approval behind Miller. Palin also made much of the fact that she was appointed to her seat originally, back in 2002, by her father to fill the vacancy left by him when he became governor. Really everything lined up with the TEA Rhetoric- she's a "Washington" politician, she's elitist, and she was from a political family that utilised their position for gain. Her stance on abortion did not help much either. It all really came down to her rivalry with Murkowski resulting her time in the state. Remember that private jet plane that Palin made a big deal about during the 2008 elections, about how she got rid of it and what not? That jet was acquired by Lisa Murkowski's father, and no doubt she would use that to apply it to Lisa Murkowski's own short-fallings.
