Alberta's two main right-of-centre parties have the mandate to unite after a pair of referendum votes concluded Saturday.

Both conservative parties reported resounding support among members to unite the parties, pegging "yes" votes at 95 per cent of ballots cast in both votes.

But Alberta Deputy Premier Sarah Hoffman quickly denounced the emerging party as a group of entitled extremists. On Twitter, Hoffman, who represents an Edmonton riding in the legislature, said the UCP offers a combination of "entitlement" from the old Progressive Conservatives along with the Wildrose party's "extremism and cuts." "It all adds up to pain for Alberta families," Hoffman wrote.

The Wildrose Party said Saturday nearly 25,000 votes were cast, making for a voter turnout of 57.7 per cent. The Progressive Conservatives just needed a majority of votes to merge. Their voter turnout was 55 per cent, with more than 27,000 votes cast, and 95 per cent of them endorsing the merger.
**SOURCE** Second source, because first one feels a little off
“yes to building on everything that we’ve accomplished as Wildrose, and yes to saving Albertans from the NDP government.”
Well united you may stand, together you are still batshit fucking crazy for implying they are responsible for half the hole you dug.
Not too surprised that them joining hands passed so smoothly. Really looking forward to the next election to see the funsies that happens.
“yes to building on everything that we’ve accomplished as Wildrose, and yes to saving Albertans from the NDP government.”
I'm a bit confused by this honestly, why do we need to be saved from the NDP? Do they honestly think that they will win the next election?
Cool, now don't ever get elected again please.
I remember the election a few years ago. Regardless of how you stand it's honestly great that a party that has ruled for 40 years was thrown out in one election. I hope NDP can win again, though according to polls, it's not looking good.
All the parties in Alberta suck. But I guess the NDP have sucked the least so far.
We elected a Wild Rose in my city and all she has done is allocate funding to open a 24/7 urgent care center. Other than that, I know she likes to party a lot in her late 30's. I hate this province.

I assume you have some proof that support for the conservatives is going down, even with this merger. I just think it's a bit naive to assume that the conservative party can't be elected again in a province that it NOTORIOUSLY conservative. Just because the NDP won once doesn't mean their victory is assured again. [editline]23rd July 2017[/editline]
Every time I hear about people complaining able canadian politics I just get jealous, why can't our politics be that kind of shit instead of our own kind of shit?
In Canada the worst it gets imo is the constant attack ads that play on the TV, the Conservatives were most guilty of this in the last general election. Seriously, go watch the "He's just not ready" ads on youtube, they're friggin pathetic.
Well "Unite the Right" happened federally already around what, like 2003 when the Reform/Alliance from Alberta merged with the remnants of the PC party? No surprise it happened in Alberta too. I wonder how long it will be before a "Neo-Wildrose" party is formed. I agree with you here, I severely doubt the NDP will win again in fact I wouldn't be surprised if the next election is a crushing defeat for them.
