£5.. i've heard its a good shooter, is it that good?
watch as everyone says its bad even though they didnt even try immersing themselves into it when it is infact one of the better games this decade
Get from point A to point B, shoot stuff, repeat 20 times.
watch as everyone says its bad even though they didnt even try immersing themselves into it when it is infact one of the better games this decade
We get it, we bloody get it. The story tries deconstructing the shooter genre as a whole and so forth, the only reason anyone would get it now is because of the story to begin with. But personally? I wouldn't buy a game known to have bland-as-fuck gameplay and dead multiplayer just to solely experience the story, even if the bland gameplay is an intentional point of design. It just doesn't swing with me as a consumer.
£5.. i've heard its a good shooter, is it that good?
well it's not exactly a good shooter game. it's kind of complicated, but i'll just cut it short and say it's absolutely worth getting at this price [editline]5th May[/editline] i mean, for £5 pounds. anything higher than fifteen at the absolute maximum would be daylight robbery basically
yeah gameplay wise it's an awfully generic third person cover shooting game but story wise it's excellent. the graphics are pretty cool too. for 5€ it's not a bad deal.
The mechanics may not be unique but that doesn't mean they're not decent mechanics either.
Absolutely worth it for the price no question. It's fairly short and the combat is nothing revolutionary but it's still fun and I'll be one of those guys who says it's worth it for the story alone because it is :)

If anything, i'm overly cynical and a massive critic about every game I play, and am horrible about any sort of standards. I just don't think Spec Ops: The Line would tide me over as a personal opinion, is that so wrong to consider?
The gameplay isn't what people play this for, it's the overrated story. Some people will appreciate it, but everybody is giving it way too much credit. It's just Heart of Darkness, get over it. Other than that, $7.50's a nice price for it. I'm not sure if people still play the multiplayer.

Anyway its appraisal has come full circle and now it's being overblown, because the low expectations that surrounded this game around the time of its release which contributed to its critical acclaim is not there anymore. Nothing aside from the narrative is exceptionally good, but it's one of those little games you'll remember and at this price it's a steal.

I've heard a lot about this. Does the story justify playing through another boring TPS?
I've heard a lot about this. Does the story justify playing through another boring TPS?
just watch Apocalypse Now again or read Heart of Darkness again they do the same thing without resorting to cheap viewer/reader guilt tactics
just watch Apocalypse Now again or read Heart of Darkness again they do the same thing without resorting to cheap viewer/reader guilt tactics
I've never seen Apocalypse Now actually. Might as well watch it and save myself £5.
watch as everyone says its bad even though they didnt even try immersing themselves into it when it is infact one of the better games this decade
I tried really hard to immerse myself, and I'm really that type of gamer too, but it really just didn't catch in on me.
no it hasn't?
Hotline Miami Shadow of the Colossus
why this game isnt available in my region? ;; i guess they dont want my money
Hotline Miami Shadow of the Colossus
Hotline Miami hardly had a story, it took the exact opposite approach in that it emphasized that stories in games were pointless for the most part
As a game, it's shit. Really bad gameplay mechanics, buggy, etc. As a story, it's incredible. The best story game I have ever played.
For that price, you can join one of the biggest "discussion" in gaming right now. Some people love it for the story, some hate it for it. Some think the mechanics are dull, others claim they have to be dull. Play through it without knowing much of the story, and start discussing after you finished it, it's worth it for that alone :v:
As a game, it's shit. Really bad gameplay mechanics, buggy, etc. As a story, it's incredible. The best story game I have ever played.
I have to disagree with you on both points, the gameplay itself was fairly solid, nothing groundbreaking or worth full price for, but satisfying and probably worth $7.50. Opposite applies to the story, by no means a bad story, but not what it's cracked up to be. All in all: nothing worthy of any awards, but a solid game that's definitely worth $7.50 if you enjoy TPS' and/or a decent story.
Hotline Miami hardly had a story, it took the exact opposite approach in that it emphasized that stories in games were pointless for the most part
Hotline didn't emphasize anything about storytelling. They just didn't focus on a story. Hotline gets more exaggeration of its artistry and intentions than even Spec Ops does.
Hotline didn't emphasize anything about storytelling. They just didn't focus on a story. Hotline gets more exaggeration of its artistry and intentions than even Spec Ops does.
That's what I meant, they didn't try to have a story
What I heavily disliked is that the gamelplay was so generic and overthetop. It tries to have this really intense story about how they just fuck up in this mess, right from the bat you mow down enemies like flies. It seriously destroyed my immersion.
