CNN edits out Milwaukee victim’s sister calling for violence in the suburbs
Both online and on television, CNN edited out Sherelle Smith, the sister of a black man who was killed by police in Milwaukee on Saturday, calling for rioters to take their violence “to the suburbs.”
Correspondent Ana Cabrera reported Ms. Smith was “calling for peace” in a televised segment Monday on CNN Newsroom, NewsBusters reported.
The network showed a brief clip of Ms. Smith telling protesters: “Don’t bring the violence here and the ignorance here.”
But CNN cut away before Ms. Smith called for rioters to “take that s– to the suburbs.”
“Stop burning down s– we need in our community,” Ms. Smithsaid in her extended remarks. “Take that s– to the suburbs. Burn they s– down. We need our s–. We need our weaves. I don’t wear it. But we need it.”
A CNN.com article on Monday framed the issue similarly, reporting that Ms. Smith “condemned violence carried out in her brother’s name, saying the community needs those businesses.”
The article made no mention of her call for violence against other communities.

You can find the clip at the end, with CNN calling it a call for peace: [del]http://www.cnn.com/2016/08/16/us/milwaukee-county-sheriff-david-clarke-profile/index.html[/del]

Burn down the suburbs for... weaves. 2016 continues to surpass all expectations.
Wow, they actually replaced the video JUST NOW after seeing the backlash

I heard in the end "We need our weed"
CNN is a fucking joke
The only word for this is disgraceful - both her statement and CNN's edit of it. I don't get why they would edit it either - that's not being neutral like they should be. This stuff is making me believe I am vindicated in thinking that American news media needs a major overall from the top down. Things like this can't be allowed to happen.
Gotta preserve that victim narrative, that's hard to do when the victim is calling for violence.
The victims aren't the ones calling for violence against the innocent
doesn't matter what happened to you. I don't give a fuck. It's no excuse.
Isn't promoting violence like this a crime?

They edited it because they wanted to craft / support a narrative. "Look at this paragon of virtue, her brother was killed yet she's calling for the violence to stop." That sort of thing gets higher ratings than "Sister of criminal tells people they need to be more productive with their arson".
At least they edited it back (un-edited it?) and have a disclaimer saying "oops we fucked up" now.
And now I'm courios about how many people will know about this, CNN editing and un-editing. (not counting this forum).
It's terrible knowing you can't trust anything on TV or on the more popular media these days. News and journalism went from reporting the world to changing the world.
It's even more horrifying that there are people who take the word of CNN, NBC, and the others reports for granted, trusting that they are getting the truth.
never trust TV news

This, a million times over.
Everyone who watches the news should repeat it.
I mean it's common knowledge some news networks lean left and some lean right. But they ALL have bias. And bias is untrustworthy.
>>Black person says stupid shit.
>>All black people upset over anything really just yearn to be victims
Never change Facepunch.

Cool meme and strawman, not like literally no one in this thread said that.

Nothing "happened" to her. Her brother was a shithead who got himself killed by trying to kill a cop.
Early media was changing the world. See the ~1930s/40s meat industry changed by one journalist (I think it was one?).
Then it became corrupted and turned into whatever it is now. Probably because money.
I would say early reporting ended up changing the world as a direct result of only reporting it.
Rather, in my definition of 'changing', they create a narrative or a story with bits and pieces of the truth. This narrative gives them the power to influence the populace however they wish to the benefit of the elite rather than the many.
Going into a suburb will only end in more violence. Homeowners have the right to defend their lives and property. Good luck with that.
I wish new media was actual held responsible for the shit they do and stir up.
I'm sorry you lost your brother but don't be spouting out dumb bullshit that encites violence and anti social behaviour

Depends strongly on where you live tbh.
I mean I agree with them not airing a literal call for violence against people in their homes but doing it to fit a fabricated narrative is total shit
Huh, at the point where you hear 'WE NEED OUR WEED' and 'TAKE IT TO THE SUBURBS, BURN SHIT DOWN' in the same sentence you've already lost all possible credibility and sympathy I could've had. If he tried to kill a cop, it serves him right. He who lives by the sword will die by the sword, and calling for more violence will only result in the loss of more innocent lives. End the cycle. Be the better person.

That actually makes even less sense than before. I can understand if it was weed, who in their right mind would wanna go and burn down suburbs when they're high as shit? But weaves? This is why Trumps'a comin.
let them try
then they'll find out the real reason tax payers fund police
CNN issued a correction, admitting they "shorthanded" and misrepresented the sister's quote.
All news is about driving one narrative or another. I don't like CNN for this particular reason. I want news reported fairly and not biased to fit preconceived notions - CNN is pretty bad and does that often. But both sides of media do this - when Trayvon Martin was portrayed inaccurately as a young kid instead of a near-adult, no news organizations just said that. The pendulum swang back the other way, and suddenly wild speculation about Trayvon being a gang member who was buying skittles to make lean (despite not having any in his system) became the narrative the other side pushed.
News sucks. Read both narratives and squeeze the truth out yourself. This is a blatant example, but every news channel does this shit in one direction or another.
I find that the news isn't so bad so long as you're aware of bias and agenda-pushing. You can mentally ignore those segments and see the actual news.
Having a variety of news sources also helps doing that a great deal.
