Jack Kevorkian, the longtime champion of assisted suicide, died early Friday after being hospitalized with kidney problems and pneumonia.
The 83-year-old passed away at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Mich., according to his attorney and friend, Mayer Morganroth.
Kevorkian, who was nicknamed "Dr. Death" for his role in the deaths of more than 130 people through assisted suicide, died from natural causes, Morganroth said. Kevorkian had been hospitalized several times with similar ailments.
He first became a polarizing public figure in 1990, the year he performed the first public "physician-assisted suicide" when he helped an Alzheimer's patient take her own life.
Over the following years, he claimed to have helped many more cast aside what he termed "stone-age ethics," helping them die via a lethal injection or gas mask.
His 1993 book, "Prescription: Medicide," argued that he should be called "Dr. Dignity" -- rather than the more common moniker, "Dr. Death" -- for allowing patients to die at a time of their choosing. He even suggested that there was a historical precedent for the practice.
In 1991, the state of Michigan revoked his medical license. But the courts were slower to act.
It was more the line "doctor assisted homicide" than actual addiction but okay.
Modern Ethics loses a champion.
Damn, Kevorkian was my hero. The man had balls and a good sense of ethics, he'll be missed by those of us who aren't conservative retards.

all the conservatives i know are in favor of euthanasia, its a matter of personal choice
Wasn't he convicted of Second Degree murder?
When he went on trial he dismissed his attorney and didn't know much about law, not to mention he euthanized the patient himself, rather then the patient "pressing the button" themselves like in earlier cases.
If any of you are unaware who he is like I was a few minutes ago, watch the video in the source, it's really informative.
Who is this guy?
Who is this guy?
He basically allowed people to kill themselves under his care, he also did it himself once, if you read the article and posts in this topic.
In America what with all the Christianity this is a big no-no since god has a boner for people with cancer suffering through immense pain.
My English teacher said her husband used to care for him in prison. She doesn't believe in suicide herself, but she taught me that there are two sides to every story, and that what this man did was noble.
Bump. This is a big event.
So... Did he die all by himself?
We had a political debate in government class about assisted suicide the other day and this came up. Someone called him out saying that he was a hypocrite for not doing assisted suicide on himself. My group ran her ignorant argument into the fucking ground (and we were on the third floor :downsrim:).
Read it in the paper today, I live in the area and this shits been going on forever.
Good guy, gonna miss him.
I mean even if you don't agree with him, you have to say he stood up for his ideas and he was fighting for human rights in the end, and that makes him a lot better in my opinion even though I agreed with him.

He did it more then once. Around 130 times 'assisted', he got out of a lot of it because he had the people do the stuff themselves that he helped with. Shit went south once he recorded HIMSELF doing it (And showed it on 60 minutes) to someone and basically said 'come at me bro' to the government.
shhhhiiiiiit
that sucks.
We need more people like him to stand up for other shit, he at least left a mark on all that.

You Don't Know Jack was a great film.
It's sad to see someone who helped fight for assisted suicide to pass, there's not many people who fight as hard as he did.
