• UK struggles to hire armed female police - because women don't like carrying guns

Fewer women want to be armed police officers because they do not want to carry 'great big guns', Scotland Yard's most senior policewoman has said. 'I have to say, and it hurts me to say it as an old-school feminist, I do believe in our society and our culture, fewer women who join the police actually want to be armed,' she told a City of London meeting http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2596727/Police-struggle-hire-female-officers-want-carry-guns-claims-Britains-high-ranking-policewoman.html
Try telling that to my family :v:
My wife says she would do it, literally
My wife says she would do it, literally
Why she isn´t joining them then.
This is actually a good thing in certain respects. If women are cautious with firearm usage, this would mean they would most likely try diplomatic channels regarding situations.

Also honestly you don't want people who are afraid of firearms using them, especially in high stress scenarios like policework. Fear translates to less control during adrenaline dumps, which causes a huge loss of accuracy. Civilians could be hurt or killed by someone too afraid of a firearm to control it.
All I've ever seen armed police officers carrying in London are MP5s, and the MP5 is not a 'great big gun'.
If they aren't meeting the requirement, maybe don't hire them?
All I've ever seen armed police officers carrying in London are MP5s, and the MP5 is not a 'great big gun'.
Compared to some things the standard US Officer, yeah that's nothing.
I know a few that enjoy holding a cannon if you know what I mean :v:
They struggle to hire women ? Why would you struggle to hire persons of certain gender ? Are men not welcome in the police or something ? (User was banned for this post ("Didn't read the title or article." - Swebonny))
This is actually a good thing in certain respects. If women are cautious with firearm usage, this would mean they would most likely try diplomatic channels regarding situations.
That's a pretty big leap to take, casually speaking.
All I've ever seen armed police officers carrying in London are MP5s, and the MP5 is not a 'great big gun'.
It kinda is in a country where guns are entirely illegal for the most part, and the majority of people living there have probably never seen much bigger than a submachine gun in real life, never mind used one.
Who cares if fewer women are joining. We have enough armed police units or whatever they are as it is, and even so what difference does it make if not enough women want to join anyway?
All I've ever seen armed police officers carrying in London are MP5s, and the MP5 is not a 'great big gun'.
From the article: [I]"Meanwhile in February two ‘petite’ firearms officers were told to expect a pay-out of £70,000 after winning a sex discrimination case over the size of their big guns. The weapons were too large for their small hands and as a result they could not reach the trigger, their employment tribunal against the Civil Nuclear Constabulary heard. Victoria Wheatley and Rachael Giles also struggled with the grip of the pistols they were using – a Glock 17 – and they also claimed their heads and legs were too small for their protective gear.
This is actually a good thing in certain respects. One of my uncles used to work as a copper here and moved over a few years back, he's loving it. Also, I've honestly seen more female AFOs than male ones. Hardly a great sample size though, since you'll only really see them when you're loitering around railway stations or airports.
It kinda is in a country where guns are entirely illegal for the most part, and the majority of people living there have probably never seen much bigger than a submachine gun in real life, never mind used one.
Ehh, can we stop phrasing it that way? For handguns it would be fairly accurate, but for shotguns and some rifles it's an entirely different story - it's incredibly easy to get a shotgun license if you want to join a shooting club or such. It's more that firearm ownership is heavily stigmatised, outside of a few careers.
At the rate the police numbers are dropping, there's probably only 5 roles to fill anyway.

Hell, hiring practices for police forces are horribly disproportional here anyway, Toronto hasn't got a budget for any more cops, but the federal RCMP is so desperate for officers they're letting people with petty crimes apply for the positions.
What is the fucking world coming to
tbh they should have properly fitting protective gear for their safety, but idk what the hell the police force can do to change the size of their guns.

You're robbing us blind! Your higher job satisfaction ratings and higher salaries must stop!
I've only once seen a cop carry a gun, and at that point I was within 10 meters of the king of Norway :v:
tbh they should have properly fitting protective gear for their safety, but idk what the hell the police force can do to change the size of their guns.
Or better yet, not hire people who don't fit certain standards for the job assigned. Protective gear can be fitted only so much, after that you have to modify the materials and stuff, interfering with its protective properties anyway.
I've only once seen a cop carry a gun, and at that point I was within 10 meters of the king of Norway :v:
Cops not carrying guns is a strange concept to me, since every cop in Canada has a pistol on their hip and either a rifle or shotgun (sometimes both) in their car.
Cops not carrying guns is a strange concept to me, since every cop in Canada has a pistol on their hip and either a rifle or shotgun (sometimes both) in their car.
For me it's the other way around. I barely ever see police walking around, let alone seeing them with a pistol.
I've never seen a gun in real life and I'm 22
I've never seen a gun in real life and I'm 22
This, even the age :v:
only ever see PSNI with G3's (long time ago) and Glock 17's i've seen the garda in the south use AUG's.
I'd totally be up for that but knowing my luck they'd pull some discrimination bullshit for being a woman with a penis.
tbh they should have properly fitting protective gear for their safety, but idk what the hell the police force can do to change the size of their guns.
probably get them smaller framed guns in the same caliber it'd certainly be cheaper than a £70,000 lawsuit
