http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/jun/08/g7-leaders-agree-phase-out-fossil-fuel-use-end-of-century
The G7 leading industrial nations have agreed on tough measures to cut greenhouse gases by phasing out the use of fossil fuels by the end of the century, the German chancellor, Angela Merkel, has announced, in a move hailed as historic by some environmental campaigners. On the final day of talks in a Bavarian castle, Merkel said the leaders had committed themselves to the need to “decarbonise the global economy in the course of this century”. They also agreed on a global target for limiting the rise in average global temperatures to a maximum of 2C compared to pre-industrial levels. Environmental lobbyists described the announcement as a hopeful sign that plans for complete decarbonisation could be ruled on in Paris climate talks later this year. But they criticised the fact that leaders had stopped short of signing up to Merkel’s proposal that they should agree on their own immediate binding emission targets.
So 85 years from now? Wow so progressive.
I actually am not familiar with the G7, so will this just affect people apart of the G7 or the entire world?
They probably won't have much of a choice by that point.
Well that is nice. I wounder what source of fuel they'll make us switch over to. Solar? Hydrogen? maybe Nuclear??
So 85 years from now? Wow so progressive.
If they manage to completely phase them out in 85 years, that's surprisingly fast. I suppose majority of it will be phased out much faster though.
If they manage to completely phase them out in 85 years, that's surprisingly fast. I suppose majority of it will be phased out much faster though.
They want a reduction of somewhere between 40 and 70 percent by 2050
So 85 years from now? Wow so progressive.
its just something to say so it sounds like they're tackling the issue properly
They probably won't have much of a choice by that point.
There is enough coal, oil and gas to outlast any energy crisis of the next several generations (Apart from price, of course). There is MOUNTAINS of coal. It's just really really awful for everyone.
So 85 years from now? Wow so progressive.
I don't quite think you realise just how large an undertaking this is.
Shows how little of a shit they actually give.
This is why we have quotas now, especially in the EU. You just need a body powerful enough to issue fines and countries start bending over backwards. Most countries apart from China/US are slowing down on fossil fuels, so you can't say nothing is being done.
WOW GUYS. BY 2100 WE'LL BE USING ONLY CLEAN POWER. IT'S A FUCKING SHAME THAT IF WE DON'T DO IT BY 2050 WE'LL BE FUCKED ANYWAY. Oh man at this point I wish a fucking comet would smash Earths fucking back doors in so we could either all die together on this piece of shit rock with our piece of shit species, or at least maybe let something else evolve and have a shot because if this is the best action we can agree upon we're completely and utterly fucked.
...More for me.

The EU has committed to cut emissions by 40% by 2030, and hopefully a global agreement can be reached at the Paris talks later this year
Good thing Germany is already doing their part by switching from Nuclear Power plants to coal... oh wait
So 85 years from now? Wow so progressive.
thats a big deal though, outside of transportation and power, oil and fossil fuels are used extensively for the synthesis of virtually every chemical used in our daily lives, and its not simply a case of replace it with solar panels, without the petrolium feedstock, you'd have to go through hundreds of extra steps just to produce the compounds needed to keep the world's industries running
Sweet. When the US switches over I'll just buy an alky carb and a few alcohol-safe rubber parts for the rest of the system and keep right on driving my trusty iron workhorse.
Well that is nice. I wounder what source of fuel they'll make us switch over to. Solar? Hydrogen? maybe Nuclear??
We'll create jobs, produce clean energy and get more Americans exercising with this new source of power!
So 85 years from now? Wow so progressive.
Yeah it's far away but the implications of this are huge, for one this means that there won't be a vehicle on the road that uses fossil fuels and that is something that will take a long ass time to happen if only because non-fossil fuel vehicles are just now getting to the point of viability and they're still expensive compared to the normal car and barely wide spread.
So 85 years from now? Wow so progressive.
Literally agreeing that the next generation will solve the problem. [editline]8th June 2015[/editline]
I actually am not familiar with the G7, so will this just affect people apart of the G7 or the entire world?
Yeah it's just 7, but they consist of are powerful countries in America, Europe, and Asia (currently just Japan). You might better recognize it as the G8, but Russia was suspended for waging a shadow war in Ukraine, so it's G7 now.
They probably won't have much of a choice by that point.
Enough to last a 1,000 years, but no choice in the matter.

I don't think with a snap of a finger or rather 5 years you could make the world stop drinking oil and turn to something else. That said, doesn't matter much to me, I'll be dead by the time they give up Fossil Fuels.
The only solution i am accepting is to put 10k people in a bunker and exterminate the rest
Are you going to be one of them? You seem a very angry person.
The only solution i am accepting is to put 10k people in a bunker and exterminate the rest
You sound like a fantastic human being.
Phase out? You mean run out. Our fossil fuel reserves are expected to be depleted by the turn of the next century.
