But a Government backbencher says they cannot be considered real cuts because they will not affect programming. News Corp Australia is speculating the Government is considering cutting another $40-$50 million from the ABC. Liberal Senator Cory Bernardi, who has been advocating for cuts to the public broadcaster, has welcomed the speculation. "It's a good start," he told the ABC. Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull commissioned the efficiency review earlier in the year to see where the ABC and SBS could be more cost-effective. "This was to ensure they run their organisations as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible without impacting on the quality and range of programming or on editorial independence," a spokesman for the Minister said. The Government says the 1 per cent cut to the ABC's base funding in the budget was a "down payment on back-office savings" being considered over coming months. The efficiency dividend was announced at the same time as the axing of the Australia Network, worth more than $200 million to the ABC, which has since flagged redundancies and reduced foreign coverage. The report from the efficiency review has been handed to the boards of the ABC and SBS, who will determine the nature of any cuts and where they will apply. A spokesman for the ABC declined to comment further on the report.
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-06-23/abc-may-face-further-cuts-of-up-to-50-million-dollars/5542774
This ABC?
why would a band be federally funded
Whenever I see mention of the ABC I think of the American Broadcasting Channel instead of the Australian Broadcasting Channel. There really needs to be a way to separate the two. Well, at least nobody's using it to refer to Amy's Baking Company.

Good thing the cut primarily affects foreign broadcasts, what a waste of money. If people internationally wanted to view ABC so bad they can do it online.
I don't know tasm, the places they were mainly broadcasting aren't renowned for having the greatest of internet coverage.

The money taken away doesn't exactly go into a black hole.
