The world witnessed another ground-breaking use of GIF diplomacy on Tuesday, when the official Twitter account for the country of Ukraine mocked the official account for Russia with a Simpsons GIF.
Simpsons GIFs need to banned from the field of warfare, Russia is suffering from severe burns after this attack
Who else didn't read the "on Twitter" part of the title and thought "Oh fuck not again."
I'm at least pleasantly surprised. :v:
"Unite our nations"
Translation: just give in and let us annex you ffs
So,what do they actually gain from this?Just wasted time bickering like children in my opinion. And Simpsons GIF,that was a low move, even for Ukraine.

on the contrary, that simpson gif was one of the finest usages of simpson gifs in memetic warfare i have seen

no it isnt
its part of ukraine's campaign of information warfare with russia
the trick is to use western values (yes, even western memes) to try and gain even more support for ukraine in its ongoing conflict with russia. this is so fucking blatant and the fact that you're not seeing it is sad. russia is a fucking shithole, but is adapting faster to 21st century information combat than most nations (see: collusion with trump, trying to sway elections in france, etc.), but that doesn't mean that ukraine isn't doing the same exact goddamned thing.
ukraine's campaign is so successful that most people, even on this predominantly liberal forum, aren't aware that a large portion of the entirety of ukraine's conflict has been directly instigated by neo-nazis and ultra-nationalists in an attempt to grab power amidst the conflict, taking advantage of the fact that russia was being a giant cunt in instigating war and grabbing land.
this has been going on ever since the first molotov was thrown during the maidan protests. it's an incredibly intricate and in-depth information war waged by ukranians to try and distance themselves from russia, and align closer to the west as a whole, using any means possible.

Personally, I would consider leaking classified and secret documents in order to sway an election information warfare, not posting memes on twitter.

Ukrainians understood their current president was a pro-russian puppet and they told him to fuck off in favor of a pro-EU one, that has nothing to do with internet meme warfare, even in the FP thread nobody was posting pro-Ukranian memes, in fact that would only get you banned if you did, especially in light of a huge event like the Euromaidan, what fucking bullshit are you talking about

i dunno how that refutes what i have said in any way, if anything it strengthens my (mostly a joke) post. people like a good burn, and westerners like the simpsons. both were used here and they've gained support from it, even if that support is mostly "damn you get them ukraine!"

googling is hard
look at the size of that fucking wiki article for an apparently irrelevant, one of many, nationalist parties in eastern europe
hell, if you gave a shit about this and followed it ever since the first reports of maidan turning violent, the evidence is right there. there has been so much disinformation, from secret US agents sniping protesters that was neither confirmed nor denied, to portraying ukrainians as some sort of victims in russia's war of aggression (prior to russia's land grab), someone found some vk profiles of alleged separatist leaders having ties to russia or some other shit, the videos of "russian special forces" using russian-made weapons (because apparently a post-soviet bloc country couldn't ever ever get a hold of russian weapons lmao), the downing of the civilian airline that was done by ukranian nationalists, oh no wait its probably the donetsk rebels, wait no it's the ukranian military, hold up, it was definitely the rebels that mistook it for military aircraft. i dont care enough to post the entirety of the history of the ukranian conflict here, but ukraine has been directly copying russias tactic of disinformation and distrust except they are winning. the only problem is the fact that victory through disinformation is not a victory, it's a fragile house of cards that is built around the tactic of fighting bullshit with bullshit, fire with fire, disinformation with more disinformation.
this war of information has gotten so subtle and so murky, that even posting twitter memes is an effective tactic of convincing people that you're the sane side of the conflict. you're the one with the sense of humor. you're the one that is clearly far more trustworthy than those fucking russians that constantly instigate wars and provoke election frauds, clearly. i mean they even watch simpsons, they must be the good guys!
this is an oversimplification of course but it's clear as fucking day. sorry there's no BBC article to bolster my point, it would have probably made me more convincing. but do yourself a favor and try not to fall for the increasingly more elaborate information wars that are going on in the 21st century. read shit for yourself and dont fall for memes.

this isn't even dimensional chess, this is just a strawmans' checkers you're playing right now.
obviously, there is no possible way that millions of young americans truly thought that clinton would be a disaster for world stability, americans must be smarter than that, except when they're easily influenced by russian propaganda (according to you). read your post again, but slower. was the election swayed by russian propaganda, or did the american public feel that clinton was a bad fucking choice no matter what, while trump was literally a blank -political- canvas?
there is no doubt in my mind that russia has a hand in literally everything that is currently happening in the west, but that still doesn't fucking mean that the west isn't guilty of the same thing. you can bitch and moan about whataboutism but that's just a made up term meant to isolate and quickly dispense criticism of the west, or, criticism of russia, by separating issues that are clearly connected to one another and would not exist without the existence of the other.

Those Neo-Nazis and their silly (but very dangerously) political movement always existed before Putin and Trump (I think both them are ideologically national conservatives) existence and thier interest in politics.
Aside from how pathetic it is that countries are using their official Twitter accounts to have little internet fights with memes, Ukraine's posts were dumb and Russia's response was actually really solid imo. Not that it makes Russia any better of a country, but if you're going to have a silly Twitter war at least try not to make a point that is so easily debunked, like trying to imply that another country was undeveloped just because their current capital wasn't developed yet..

You're here complaining about an information war and yet you seem to be staunchly on the pro-Russian side of things.
Separatists shot down he airplane, Russia is the only one that disputes this fact. Russia gave them a Buk missile launcher, they used it to shoot down an airliner that they thought was a UA plane, and got rid of it when they realized what they did. I'm glad you also brought up that a "post-soviet bloc country couldn't ever get a hold of russian weapons". There have been weapons and vehicles spotted in Ukraine that are either not in Ukrainian service, or even more damning, are exclusive to the Russian Army. So how do separatists get their hands on Russian Army equipment unless Russia gave it to them?
Reuters reported that civilians in Eastern Ukraine have met bonafide Russian Soldiers, that Russian tanks (variants of the T-72 only in Russian service) had been seen and even destroyed in Ukraine, and that even Russian MRE packages have been found in trenches (you cannot buy these MRE's, they're produced exclusively for the Russian MoD). Some equipment seen in Ukraine is as recent as 2013 and exclusive to the Russian Army, including the T-72B3 tank. Weapons like the AS VAL have also been spotted, this weapon is incredibly rare and most often associated with the Spetsnaz.

Melnek your posts are shit, here's why:
Nobody started questioning Ukraine also fights in the information war, your posts are pretty damn redundant.
However, you fail to mention that Russia is responsible for the majority of disinformation in this conflict.
What are the Ukrainian equivalents of RussiaToday and Sputniknews for example?
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-34248178
https://www.bellingcat.com/news/uk-and-europe/2017/01/11/rt-infowar-billions-of-views/
It's not hard to guess that Russia spends a lot of money on information warfare, definitely a lot more than Ukraine does.
And I'm not even talking about the funding of far right-wing parties, election interference and the timely "leaks" to smear opponents.
Your posts are also incredibly fixated on Ukraine and judging from the claim that:
"that a large portion of the entirety of ukraine's conflict has been directly instigated by neo-nazis and ultra-nationalists in an attempt to grab power amidst the conflict"
shows that you too, are heavily influenced by disinformation from the Russian side.
I guess I can also say "its working lmao" when reading your posts.
