Microsoft disables Skype password resets following major security issue
Russian hackers have discovered a security hole in Skype's password recovery tool that allows a third party to take control of your account. All the hackers require is your Skype username and the email address that Skype account is registered to. With those details, they'll be able to access your account and change the password in a matter of minutes. The Next Web has tested out the five-step hack and reports that the process worked across several accounts. The site says it contacted Skype several hours before going public with the story.
It's worth noting that your account is only vulnerable if the would-be hacker knows your email address. If you're worried that your address may be common knowledge, the simplest way to protect yourself from any attack would be to change the address your account is registered with. We've spoken to Skype, which says that it is currently looking into the issue.
Update: Skype has released the following statement:
"We have had reports of a new security vulnerability issue. As a precautionary step we have temporarily disabled password reset as we continue to investigate the issue further. We apologize for the inconvenience but user experience and safety is our first priority"
The move should ensure that your account is safe while Skype works on a fix.
god DAMNIT MICROSOFT
i've been increasingly dissatisifed with skype lately, ever since it started timing out and spamming my internet to fuck to try and reconnect. it flat out DOS's me.
What pisses me off is that I can't share screen anymore and manycam sucks for sharescreening. Oh you have to pay for something that was free for fucking ever.
I thought you had to pay for group screen sharing not screen sharing one on one?

It lets me share screens, just not in group calls. I thought that's the way it's been since before Microsoft took over, just like group video calls?
It has probably been like this before Microsoft acquired Skype.
