What is better a 6950 with 1GB or a 6870 with 1GB
Because i'm building a PC and i don't know which one to choose.
Also I mostly use the computer for gaming and my friends were saying that the 2GB version of the 6950 isn't woth the extra $80. What do you think?
6950 is definitely better, and no the 2GB version isn't worth it.
post the rest of the specs and budget
Intel Core i7 2600
Asus Sabertooth P67 B3
Corsair XMS3 8Gb 1600mhz
Corsair 600W GS600 Power Supply
2Tb WD Caviar Black
CoolerMaster HAF RC-922M
Sapphire ATI AMD HD6950
CoolerMaster Hyper TX3
ASUS VE247H 23.6"
LG GH22NS50 Black 22x SATA
This is want i'm currently gonna be getting
if this is just for gaming, you can change to the i5 2500k and 4GB RAM
hyper 212+ is one of the best or just simply the best budget coolers, definitely get it over a tx3
make sure you take the stupid plastic crap off the sabertooth, all it does is raise temps, or you could just get the P8P67 PRO, P67A-GD55 or P67A-GD-65 instead to maybe save some cash
two 1tb Spinpoint F3s will probably be cheaper, caviar blacks aren't worth the cost and you can usually get similar or better speeds with F3s
with the cash you save from changing the CPU see if you can upgrade the PSU to something capable of multiple cards like a TX750V2 or one of the XFX 750Ws, so that as a cheaper future upgrade you can just buy a second card instead of having to spend more on a single card that's powerful enough to be a worthwhile upgrade
oh and for the original question, 6950 1GB or GTX560 Ti (not the regular 560), whichever is cheaper
I have a 2500k, take that, you won't need the 2600(k) for gaming, trust me.
Don't take the sabertooth, it looks cool but that plastic board isn't helping at all, but still your choice.
How about this:
Intel Core i5 2500k
Muggen 2 revb (silent + best cpu cooler)
MSI P67A-GD65 (B3)
Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3-1600 kit
Cooler Master Silent Pro 700 watt (silent)
XFX HD 6870 black edition (silent)
The rest is your choice, the 6870 will be fine, is silent and has a good warrenty.
Actual the extra gigabyte of graphics ram costs $40 more
It's gone down because of end of financial year sales

Also i'm getting the 2600 because it's the cheapest i7 at the moment because of these sales
unless you're rendering or editing videos or something else that takes advantage of hyperthreading, the i5 is a better choice
so unless the 2600k is cheaper, go with the 2500k

oh and make sure you're getting a 2_00K
yeah
