This thing's persistent. Running XP, you try and log on and it logs you off automatically. Safe mode boots up but with no explorer. Any keyboard commands like ctrl+alt+del are blocked by the virus. I've tried running both the Kaspersky and the Bitdefender boot CD's and both have found viruses and apparently removed them but with no effect. I'm currently running Hiren's Boot CD with minixp but the partition on the disk is too small to install an antivirus on. What are my options at this point?
Also, yes I've tried the whole XP disk recovery console process involving userinit.exe and whatnot.
Use the BootCD to copy across your documents into an external drive, then reformat and reinstall.

That's an absolute last resort. I'm repairing it for a friend and they said they didn't want me to do that... but it's that or no laptop unless I can find an alternate method.
