• A better media player

I am looking for a good media playing software for movies and music. I have windows media player but i'd rather use something better. What would FP recommend? Edit: Yup, definitely using VLC.
VLC or the CCCP codec packet and WMV You could also get iTunes, as a lot of people enjoy it's library and easy access to new songs. Then there's also winamp, which I personally didn't like, but hey might aswell check it out. Edit: Winamp and iTunes are more for songs, whereas VLC and CCCP codec pack is for overall playing media.
I'll probably be good with using VLC media player.
I recommend VCL along with K-Lite Codec Pack
Foobar 2000
Don't install that K-Lite codec crap, use ffdshow instead. The reason: It is a pain in the ass to uninstall codec packs, IF there are any problems with them. Also VLC has mostly all the codecs you'll ever need included.
Winamp?
Videos - VLC Music - Foobar
I use VLC for all movies and mediamonkey for all music. Love them bouth.
I use VLC and have my media on a server running Jinzora which sorts out the management. But VLC alone is brilliant.
foobar2000 for music and mpc:hc for video is my setup.
Do this (http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/447089/5-1-headphone-experience-foobar-configuration-for-all-stereo-music-files) for music. It sounds like pure sex. VLC for Videos.
I use windows media player with sharkcodec pack for win 7
In my experience Media Player Classic works better than VLC for HD video.
Miro ?
Consider using the Shark007 codec pack, it works with Windows media Center as well as Windows media player, no need for a new player. http://shark007.net/ 32 and 64 bit
In my experience Media Player Classic works better than VLC for HD video.
Yep, also experienced this. Then again, for music I mostly use Last.fm(since I don't listen to music at my PC at all) or WMP. For videos I use Media Player Classic - Home Cinema. I'll give Shark's codec pack a try though. Would love to have one player for everything. Edit: Woop, works like a charm so far.
KMPlayer. http://kmplayer.en.softonic.com/
In my experience Media Player Classic works better than VLC for HD video.
The reason for this is that VLC does not support hardware acceleration yet. At least for Amd/ATi HD cards.
Xion
Media Player Classic for videos. Foobar2000 for music.
The reason for this is that VLC does not support hardware acceleration yet. At least for Amd/ATi HD cards.
I've got a GeForce 8600GT. VLC doesn't seems to support CUDA.
I used vlc ages ago when it had a dodgy volume bar, that put me off it and i haven't used it since although i've seen a few friends using it and it seems to have been improved. Personally i use media player classic (cccp) for videos and Winamp Professional for music because i like its libraryness.
I used to use Winamp but I didn't like its library management and playlist features. I switched to Mediamonkey a year or two ago and I love it. Much more control over my music and my playlists.
