To clarify some large political issues:
Israel attacks Syria. Syria is backed by Iran. Iran is backed by Russia. Russia is backed by China. Israel is backed by the USA. USA is backed by NATO. For anyone who took a history class in high school, the term 'Powder Keg' is an apt description for whats happening right now.

Russia wont help Iran if they do something as stupid as attack Israel over Syria.
nothing good will come out of this
China and Russia haven't backed each other since the 70s

Russia won't back Iran if NATO is involved, not worth it to them

Look at a map. Israel easily beats Syria then turns their attention to Iran. Russia WILL help Iran, if for nothing else than the simple geographic fact that they share a border and don't particularly like Israel.
Russia is smarter then backing up Iran over Syria. So either Russia will pull the old switch-a-roo and join our side, or they just won't get involved.'
The latter seems more likely.
WELL. Its time for scandinavia to embrace isolationism and practice for a lifestyle drenched in radiation.

Im pretty sure Russia nor USA wants a nuclear war, so USA wont back Israel, and Russia wont back Iran.
Of course i could be wrong and looks like metro 2033 is right.
Metro 2013!

russia supported assad's regime. it would hold to reason that if israel is being belligerent then russia will at least give token support to iranian intervention.
also if israel attacked it would certainly give a lot of legitimacy to an iranian intervention.

it isn't like a proxy war would result in nuclear war. several proxy wars happened during the cold war and we lived through it.

There are no Metros around here, can I hide at the local subways? Free sandwiches in emergencies!
Preemptively sensationalist as fuck. No one is attacking anyone yet.
I highly doubt Moscow and Washington are stupid enough to have at each other over this. Obama's already made it clear he's not exactly fond of Israel's tactics, and since he's commander-in-chief of the US Military I doubt US troops would do much of anything if Israel starts jabbing the hornet's nest with a rusty bayonet.
I could be wrong, though. Heh.[QUOTE=counterpo0;39386620]Im pretty sure Russia nor USA wants a nuclear war, so USA wont back Israel, and Russia wont back Iran.

I'm thinking we'd get more Fallout less Metro. :v:

In Metro 2033 the apocalypse happened after a nuclear war in 2013.
Oh god, this is getting syriaous.

*ahem*

No major power will get involved. It simply isn't worth it. It's in nobody's best interest to go to war over a shithole region nobody honestly gives 2 shits about. We've learned from WW1. [sub]Too bad we learned nothing from the Great Depression.[/sub]

It's funny because they hated each other's guts. Cue Mao and Khrushchev at the pool story. They would never back each other over Iran. People don't realise how close they were to nuking each other.

Yeah we learned from WWI, otherwise we might have had a WWII-
Oh wait
EDIT: War makes for strange bedfellows. If the USA got involved in a global conflict, don't you think it would use that opportunity to kill the people holding its debt?

In a heartbeat. The capitalists would be preaching the morality of it all the way to the bank.

Why can't we fight on the same side as Russia once or twice. It would be nice if they would reverse their policy and join the US in a joint operation in Syria. I don't particularly want to get into another conflict, but the Syrians could use a hand, better relations with Russia will make future conflicts in the region easier to resolve, and financially it seems like increasing trade with Russia would be lucrative on both sides.

Increasing trade with Russia doesn't need to involve bolstering the arms trade or military-industrial complex, nor does recreating years of colonial intervention upon a fragile region need to occur. The Syria we know as a conflict region is a sectarian conflict with the convenient cover of a civil war, first thing first for the region is not to ensure that the current borders are protected at all costs, which any military intervention would.

Israel have fought Arab states backed by the Soviets several times during the Cold War. Hot War didn't happened.
Just for the record, Chinese-Russian relations are decent at the moment. They're expanding cooperation on multiple fronts. They also commonly reach the same position at the UN.

Iran doesn't share a border with Russia, and hasn't done so since the fall of the Soviet Union.

Caspian Sea. Plus states in their area of influence have direct borders. If they get Turkmenistan to join the Customs Union then they as a whole would border Iran. Armenia, Azerbaijan etc.
