The bad weather is expected to head south and east, threatening plans for Tuesday and Wednesday as people hit the roads and airports for Thanksgiving travel.
A storm blamed for at least eight deaths in the West was expected to bring freezing rain and sleet to parts of Texas as it continued making its way through the Southwest before moving east ahead of Thanksgiving.
The National Weather Service said late Sunday night that a winter storm warning for most of North Texas had been replaced with a winter weather advisory through noon Monday. A mix of rain, light freezing rain and light sleet was expected, but meteorologist Steve Fano with the weather service's Dallas-Fort Worth office said the temperatures would not be as cold as initially forecast.
"They will still go below freezing in some places, just not as much below freezing as we initially thought," Fano said.
Meteorologists said they expected the Arctic mass to head south and east and threaten plans for Tuesday and Wednesday as people hit the roads and airports for some of the busiest travel days of the year.
More than 300 flights were canceled at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, representing about one-third of the scheduled departures, and a spokeswoman said deicing equipment had been prepared as officials planned for the worst in a flurry of conference calls and meetings.
"It's certainly going to be a travel impact as we see the first few people making their way for Thanksgiving," weather service meteorologist Tom Bradshaw said.
With most of the precipitation expected to occur during the overnight hours Sunday into Monday, Fano stressed the need for motorists to be cautious on the roads, especially as they head to work during the morning rush.
Britian had their highest temperatures posted on here, and I live in Texas as well.
Already emailed all my professors, told them I'm not driving in that haha
I'm in Odessa for a few weeks for work, except I haven't been able to work since thursday because there is half an inch of ice all over our shit
I just want to finish this job so I can get out of this place
I didn't realize it had started icing until our AC turned on and a half inch sheet of ice sloughed off the blades and exploded inside the unit. Scared the everloving shit out of me.
No ice in Houston but it's nippy.
Hahahaha fuck you rest of texas I already rode away for thanksgiving
tip: just shoot the cold, and it will go away
Oh boy more freezing rain.
We get the all just bad enough to fuck you over weather.
If it's going to freeze, lets go all the way with it so I can at least play some pond hockey.
I always thought Texas was a really warm state.
True freezing rain is rare here in Germany, there is usually just normal rain freezing over and the former one wrecks complete mayhem if it happens.
I don't think anyone cares about sleet though :v:

Ooooh, there's a difference between US sleet and the rest of the world's :eng101:
Then I understand why it's an issue.

The weather in Texas is all over the place, this is what my front yard looked like about this time in 2010.

We might get snow every 3-4 years so it was pretty cool

It's similar here near the coast where the gulf stream causes very mild climate.
Where I'm now varies a lot between seasons, so both winter and especially summer are relatively annoying.

lol, gotta love the south. get a few inches of snow and a little sleet and suddenly the whole South-East just shuts down
"freezing rain."
you mean half ass snow?
Is this what it's like to live in great Britain?

Texas weather is really weird
If you don't like the weather in Texas just wait 10 minutes and watch it change.

Pretty much.

Why would you have your AC turned on when its cold?
Didn't even have a winter last year in San Antonio, it suuucked. The past few days have been 30-40F (-1C-7C) with nonstop rain and wind, it's cold as fuck compared to usual. I'm sure you people who live elsewhere can stand it fine :P

That's a shitty excuse for being too lazy to go to class.

It's not safe to drive with ice on the roads in Texas.

It's getting cold too damn fast this year. Usually it doesn't get too cold until December/January in Michigan or at least we don't have snow stick to the roads in November. It's already getting down to 15F at night and some places already have like 15" of snow this season.

Isn't far from the truth
Lol, now the news is talking about snow flurries tonight in Central. But we all know it's just going to be the hill country per usual.

It worked
I would never expect a southern state to get that cold
I have friends that live up north, and they get confused when I tell them it's cold in Texas. There are a lot of people who genuinely believe Texas doesn't go through winter at all. We just have Summer and not Summer, where it's slightly less hot.
My friend just drove from Alabama to El Paso, and she said it's snowing in El Paso, though here in Austin all we are getting is cold rain. Haven't dropped below 35 yet.

Texas looks good with snow.
Spent the weekend in Dallas(friday) and Austin (frinight/sat/sun, and it was fine; did a 6th/Congress drunk crawl in Austin with no issues. Sunday night was a different story, mostly due to dumbfucks in pickups and semis who do not know how to fucking drive on icy roads, so the trip back was "fun".

I live in Georgia, this one time we had 7 inches of snow and we didn't go to school for a week. Our emergency services just aren't equipped to handle it.
