• Odd problem with my GPU and dual monitors...

So i just got a new monitor and i tried to setup dual monitors with my old one. Now, i have done this before (only i used a dvi to vga adapter) and it worked perfectly. Now, when i try to do it, if i dont have both DVI and HDMI hooked up to my main monitor, it just stays blank. I've tried just about everything. Different HDMI cable, different DVI cable, everything. I just cant figure it out. I have a Sapphire AMD Radeon HD 6850, and my main monitor is a LG W2235.
Did this happen right after you updated drivers(if you needed to)?
Did this happen right after you updated drivers(if you needed to)?
I didn't have the second monitor before i first updated. I did uninstall the driver and everything was working fine, then when i re-installed the drivers and restarted it started back up again.

Try going into safe mode or 800x600 resolution mode and trying to change it.
The thing is, as soon as i plug in the hdmi cable to my monitor, everything just goes batshit... And i did try safe mode a while ago, but it seems AMD Catalyst overwrites the settings i set on the regular screen resolution changer that comes with windows.
I haven't really dealt with AMD Catalyst except for on a friend's PC. I thought maybe you were experiencing the same problem as me but it sounds like the driver software is the cause of the problem. Let me look around some more and see if there is anything that could help you.
I'm thinking the HDMI out shares the same output as the first DVI port. Try plugging your monitors into the second DVI and the HDMI. Also try using an HDMI to DVI and use only the DVI ports.

You got a new monitor and you want to dual monitor on one card. You plug up the new monitor to DVI1 and the old monitor to DVI2 and none of them work unless you connect the new monitor to HDMI and DVI1 at the SAME time?

My main setup WAS at my dads, then i moved away from my dad's to my mom's. I had a dual monitor setup with my current main monitor and an old CRT i had. The CRT was on the first DVI slot, and the main monitor was on HDMI. A month ago i finally got my setup mailed to me, and i swapped the monitor i was using with my laptop for my main one, and tried to use the second one as a main. When i boot up, it shows the bios n stuff on both screens, then when i get to the login it just goes blank. This does not happen when I have the AMD Catalyst drivers uninstalled, both monitors work when logged in. With the drivers installed, if i disconnect DVI or HDMI from my main monitor, everything goes blank. Good enough explanation?
Bump because I would like some help.
Bump because I would like some help.
Do you by any chance know the version of AMD Catalyst?
11.12 i think.
One of the DVI ports supports DVI-VGA adaptors, the other doesn't. So if you are hooking up 2x VGA monitors with dvi adaptors, that won't work. One port is labeled "VGA" and will let you hook up a VGA display with a DVI converter.
