[release]How dumb are we?
Apparently, pretty dumb.
At least according to a new Marist poll, which says 26% of people in this country don’t know that the U.S. declared its independence from Great Britain.
That includes 20% who were unsure and 6% who thought the U.S. separated from another nation.
So what country do people think the U.S. achieved its independence from?
Among the countries mentioned were France, China, Japan, Mexico and Spain.
The poll surveyed 1,004 Americans in June and had 3% margin of error.
But hey, even our founding fathers made mistakes.
Preservation scientists recently discovered Thomas Jefferson had originally referred to the American public as “subjects,” then changed it to read “citizens” before the ink dried.
Oops.[/release]
Good job, public education.
Not surprised honestly, there are some retards here.
261 of those people are dumb
How many news thread is this guy going to make?

Some?
That's a bit vague.
I know. France right?
I always doubt the accuracy of these polls. Maybe I'm just dumbfounded by the amount of idiots that exist.

No bro, it was the mexicans. Why do you think they keep trying to come back

delusional weeaboos

Prisma is master of the news.
Bow.
:colbert:
Incoming "America, what dumbfucks!"
No bro, it was the mexicans. Why do you think they keep trying to come back
Yeah just like when they took Texas from us in the 1830s and we got it back.
who the fuck said japan or china
I think those 261 did it for shits and giggles
You know, this is... retardedly depressing news.
I wasn't aware of a poll asking the entire country to vote for who they think we declared independence from.
i probably would've said estonia
I hate shit like this. It is most likely not accurate at all. I can drive to a shit hole part of town where no one is educated and they are on drugs and ask them this question and of course they won't fucking know it.
It's just like this "you swallow 12 spiders a year in your sleep" shit. They ran tests on tons of people and the one god damn homeless person swallowed 300 fucking spiders ruins the outcome for everyone else.
Inaccurate studies. -.-
The poll surveyed 1,004 people out of a country of over three hundred million
brilliant

This was most likely a randomized phone poll.

you're right
they should've called everyone in the united states and asked
and they call themselves surveryologists
:colbert:
Well duh it was obviously the soviet union

Except that urban legend you used as an example was never a scientific study? Also, in things like this, they have methods of controlling the data. It was most likely a representative sample of the make-up of the country.

They don't need to, sample sizes.
My state did declare independence from Mexico
Maybe only Texans were part of the survey.

See how it says it's inaccurate to ~5% each way? That's called using a representative sample, it's how these things work. If you do it with good methodology, you can get extremely accurate results with a cohort of a population.
A lot of people were just fucking with them, yes we're stupid but we're not that fucking stupid
26% is fucking INSANE. Even 5% would be too much.
This is depressing.

Why does it seem like no Facepuncher understands how polling science works?
I don't expect people to understand the complex mathematical formulae behind it all but sample sizes and margins of error are dead simple
