A new poll by Ipsos MORI, commissioned by Transform Drug Policy Foundation, shows that over half of the public (53%) support cannabis legalisation (legal regulation of production and supply) or decriminalisation of possession of cannabis. Only 1 in 7 support heavier penalties and more being spent on enforcement for cannabis offences. In addition, the survey shows that around two thirds (67%) support a comprehensive independent review of all the possible policy options (from legal market regulation to tougher enforcement) for controlling drugs.
Exactly. It's a terrible shame this is one of the taboo issues that they try to avoid in hope of retaining votes of unquestioning prejudiced folk (like Daily Mail readers) and financial backing from competing industries i.e. big booze, big tobacco, big pharma, addiction/abuse organisations that are often religiously-based and promote absolute abstinence, etc.
One day maybe policy and attitudes will shift to the point where people are people, not just employees or economic workhorses, that need to be cared for. This, in my view, can only be achieved through regulation and education hopefully culminating in the removal of the stigma surrounding drug use and far less prejudiced opinions surrounding the matter.
One of the main reasons I want weed legalized is so the DEA can focus on more important things such as catching Heinsenberg.
