• Which Graphics Card?
    43 replies, posted
I'm Building a Gaming and Game Development PC For use with Source, Halo 2, The Sims 3, Photoshop CS3, and maybe even some Crysis. These Two Graphics Cards are in my budget and the overall scheme of my components is Orange and Black. POWERCOLOR PCS AX5750 1GBD5-PDHG Radeon HD 5750 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131323 or HIS H567Q512 Radeon HD 5670 (Redwood) IceQ 512MB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161319 I prefer to have Direct X 11.0 but for both of these graphics cards I don't see a problem with that. Before you comment know that i know they're both out of stock on new egg but there are several other sites and time, lots of time. If you have a better suggestion, please feel free to comment. So which one should I Get? Thank you. Instead of me having to make another post, Are there any compatibility issues with this rig? ..Other components? Budget? Why is DX 11 important to you? The cards you are talking about are, realistically speaking, too weak to be of use in a DX 11 gaming situation—now and in the future. If you can afford it, I would recommend something with a bit more power for the tasks you described. Out of the two listed, I would say go with the first but for a little more money, the 4870 has more performance. Crysis probably wouldn't go well on either of those cards unless you were willing to run lowest settings and on a 1280x1024 display.
That^ You can get a 4870 for ~$160

Considering the price of the build, I would get something like a 4890, or if you plan on doing some DX11 gaming in the future a GTX 470 or HD 5870. It may also be better for you to get an i5. The hyper threading won't really make a difference with your tasks and an i5 would save some cash that could go to a nice powerful GPU. Core i5 :http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115215&cm_re=i5-_-19-115-215-_-Product
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131330 Cheaper than the 4870, but its on par performance wise. [editline]07:20PM[/editline] Heres some better cases. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147144 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147135
The 5770 is on par with the 4890...
As for the rest of your build, the VGA cooler from Zero Therm only supports obsolete video cards such as :NVIDIA GeForce 7600 Series. There appear to be fans included in your case so the other orange ones would not be needed.
Also, don't get that PSU. Better PSU options http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139008 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341016 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171031 [editline]07:23PM[/editline]
The 5770 is on par with the 4890...
No.
My mistake, i always presumed that
5770 is behind the 4870 a bit in this benchmark, but if you look at other games you'll see the FPS gain switches back and forth between the two.
For the most part, yes the 5770 is a better choice. There are some occasions where the 4870 performs slightly better.
I RUn A LOT of programs at a time
I RUn A LOT of programs at a time
What's your budget for the build overall? You're probably gonna want a core i5 750, like that one GWeasel posted earlier.
around $1000 The card i'm using now is the Radeon 3450 I am incredibly worried the cpu cooler i choose won't cool the i7 (i'm pretty convinced about keeping the i7). I kind of wan't the colors to look similar on the inside with orange and black. I wouldn't need to play crysis on high. I'm mostly in it for the level editor. If anyone knows of a cheaper or better RAM deal I really would like to change the RAM I have selected now.
http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=12990685 There's my try at it.
A solid build for the money, The PSU seems a bit close for a 5850, you would have to run one of the 6 pins off a molex adapter since it only has one 6 pin built in. I don't doubt it could run it, but perhaps the GPU would be better suited with a 550 watt corsair with 2x 6 pin connectors. Yeh the HYPER 212+ does come with Thermal compound, i think it's also meant to be MX-2... It's a great CPU Coolers, especially if you make it Pushpull. Solid build but i would get atleast a 550w, preferably 600
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-5770,2446-10.html Through this whole test (every game), the 4890 and the 4870 stays pretty stable in front of the 5770. At the same time the 4870 is about 20-30$ cheaper than the 5770, while the 4890 is a bit more expensive. I'd say; go for the 4870 and save some money, if you really care about DX11 (Why?), get the 5770 or newer DX11 cards, but the best Performance:Price seems to be the 4870/90.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121376 Factor in shipping and the 4870 is $167.55. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131330 Factor in shipping for the 5770 and it only costs $156.67. There's a Biostar 5770 for $154 with free shipping, which would make it the cheapest 1GB 5770...but I wouldn't test a brand on a high cost product like this.
But if you factor in the rebate on that 4870, it's $3 less than the 5770.
I Really don't want to change the case, motherboard, cpu, or fans. and I Already have a CD Drive, Four to be exact See updated post at the top for more info.

Also, the Xeon X3440 is a core i7. Just has a lower core clock, but higher binning. Which means it will overclock a lot better than a regular core i7 920. Also, with a hyper 212+ you could overclock the shit out of it. And you don't need a $160 motherboard.

To know which Graphics Card is better, and to know if all the components i choose will work together.
To know which Graphics Card is better, and to know if all the components i choose will work together.
Your components work. But Enermax is pretty shitty. We're just trying to help you get the best for your money. Also, your motherboard will come with one or two SATA cables, and you're wasting money on unneeded fans. Also, that "gaming" router is a joke.
