Bin Laden raid: China 'viewed US helicopter wreckage'
Pakistan may have allowed the Chinese military to examine the US stealth helicopter downed in the operation to kill Osama Bin Laden, reports say.
US officials are quoted as saying there is evidence Pakistan invited Chinese military engineers to the site in Abbottabad in the days after the raid.
The Black Hawk helicopter was blown up by US Navy Seals after it crashed, but the tail remained largely intact.
The covert 2 May raid has strained relations between the US and Pakistan.
The two countries - allies in the fight against the Taliban and al-Qaeda in the region - have been involved in a tit-for-tat row for the last few months, although they have tried to prevent a breakdown of relations.

Pakistan enjoys a close relationship with China, which is a major investor in telecommunications, ports and infrastructure in the country.
"The US now has information that Pakistan, particularly the ISI [Pakistan's intelligence service], gave access to the Chinese military to the downed helicopter in Abbottabad," the Financial Times quoted a source in US intelligence circles as saying.

It's just speculation. It's all false. The wreckage was handed back”
Senior Pakistani security official
He said Chinese engineers were allowed to survey the wreckage and take samples of the "stealth" skin that allowed the Seals to enter Pakistan undetected by radar, according to the paper.
Both the FT and the New York Times quote intelligence officials as saying they are "certain" the visit took place, although the NYT said officials cautioned that they did not have definitive proof of it happening.
One source said the US case came mostly from intercepted conversations in which Pakistan officials discussed inviting the Chinese to visit the crash site.
In the immediate aftermath of the raid on the compound in Abbottabad housing Osama Bin Laden, US officials had asked Pakistan not to let anyone view the remains of the helicopter.
It was brought back to the US two weeks later following a trip by US Senator John Kerry.
Both Pakistan and Chinese officials have denied the latest reports.
"It's just speculation. It's all false. The wreckage was handed back. There is no helicopter left [in Pakistan]," one senior Pakistani security official told the AFP news agency.
Well, shit. I think we all knew this was possible, and that if we pissed of the Pakistani's enough that it WOULD happen.
Now what?
Not really surprised.
Damnit! Now our Special Forces are going to be riding in cheep Chinese ripoffs instead. Fuck.
I'm not liking how offensively China has been acting towards the U.S. lately.
Damnit! Now our Special Forces are going to be riding in cheep Chinese ripoffs instead. Fuck.
No, it means that the chinese will get the technology we have.
No fun allowed.
Soon enough we'll be seeing cheap knockoff stealth helicopters flying around. It'll be like the "Appel computers" incident, except it'll be "American helichopter stealth"
No stupid allowed.
The helicopters themselves were incredibly fragile, they crashed due to a change in weather temperature, not to mention they only got the tail, even if China tries, they will have a hard time replicating and it probably wont be worth it seeing how fragile they are.
Not much different from when Israel allowed the Americans to examine knocked out Syrian T-72s in 1983, or when they got their hands on some new (at the time) T-80Us through the United Kingdom in the early 1990s.

Now you're just threadshitting.

I try to give a bit more credit than that to the Chinese, as they've proven time and time again at how good they are at reproducing other products and technologies.
The only downside to that is that they're rather bad at creating their own things.
And?
They probably stole the schematics before it was even built.
Don't worry! All of the Chinese soldiers will die from lead poisoning before they could do anything.

Which is why they probably don't care about replicating the technology, but being able to develop systems to detect it.
No, it means that the chinese will get the technology we have.
Another world power is something nobody really wants. Especially from an oppressive government like the Chinese.
How come the SEALs didn't scuttle the wreckage?

They tried to blow it up, but they were too busy killing Bin Laden.

We have a serious "Not Invented Here" attitude here in the West. I guess, in the PRC for some things, it's "why make up our own designs when a solid one already exists?"
Though they did create their own AESA radar for their KJ-2000 AWACS aircraft. While there's no real information on its capabilities, I wouldn't sit on the laurels and think it's a gigantic piece of inferior shit.

From what I understand they did, but the tail section got caught up on the wall and fell outside the compound. They would have to leave the compound to blow up another chunk taking time an putting them in potential danger.
Pakistan has the history of being two timing dickheads.
The Pakistanis sure are liberal in their understanding of the word 'alliance'.

To be fair the US Navy did invade their country, shoot up a compound and blow shit up in their literal back yards, I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted to get back at the US.
The Chinese have probably already recreated the crashed helicopter by now.

After the Bin Laden raid, They went to China and asked them to build a naval base in Pakistan. China said no.
I don't know why we give them so much money.
The Americans would have done and have done the same thing to get a advantage so I can't blame the Chinese for looking at it.
Pakistan has been fucking us over quite a bit. I'm glad we stopped giving them funding.
China is just being aggresive because the US economy is being pretty bad at the moment and china's growth is fake, making their money go down.
Basically, loads of dickwaving. Errybody chill.

Yeah, a section of the tailrotor at most.

[editline]15th August 2011[/editline]
