Hey guys, I have a question. I have heard some songs on my radio, and I want to get the songs with JUST the music and NO SINGING. Is there a name for that? Another song I would like to get without the singing is Dota by Basshunter.
A song without any vocals is an instrumental.
What you're asking for are instrumental versions of those songs. Note that the chances of you being able to find some are very low.
A song is a song, regardless if it has vocals or not. A song that has the vocals removed is an instrumental.
Instrumental version and/or Karaoke mix
Now here's the real question:
If a song without vocals is called an instrumental, and a song with only vocals is called an a cappella, what do you call a song that has both vocals AND instrumentation?
Certainly there must be a specific term for this, if we have specific terms for the other two.
Instrumental, but the voice is just another instrument, so in reality, a song is a song with or without vocals.
Thanks guys :)

Technically it's called a "song". If you want a word that's interchangeable, use "tune", "track", or "piece".
I hope this thread is some kind of bad troll attempt.

not technically.

songs need vocals, if it doesn't have vocals it's called a "piece"
song   [sawng, song]
noun
1.
a short metrical composition intended or adapted for singing, especially one in rhymed stanzas; a lyric; a ballad.

Instrumental Music isn't just "songs that have vocals removed".
Instrumental Music isn't just "songs that have vocals removed".
Technically, it is, but I think you're talking about how the song was constructed without any vocals?
Technically it's not a song unless it has vocals. The generally accepted term for an instrumental work is a piece.
So:
With singing = Song
Without = Piece
Although a common name for an already recorded song with vocals actually removed from the mix is an instrumental version or mix.

MFW you don't know music with only instruments is called instrumental music.
Songs have to have vocals, it has been around for most of the western classical tradition. It is just another genre like one day a composer might compose a song, the next day a string quartet or whatever. I hate it when people call things songs when they're not but I'm just a pretentious classical dick :v:
soundtrack or instrumetal

Terrific. Not quite sure how my post was either of those things, but whatever, I wasn't trying to be a douche. ON-TOPICNESS: A song without vocals is an instrumental.

I'm sorry if I offended you in any way, because that was not my intention.
I like Akayz, but a lot of his posts are not very contentful, if you understand what I mean.
