• Laptop getting really hot?
    18 replies, posted
Sometimes my laptop will start getting a lot louder and producing a ton of heat after it's been on for a while. It's not damaged or anything, and the laptop is only 6 months old. I'm not blocking the ventilation either. Why does this happen?
specs? how many programs have you got running in the background?
2gb ram ddr2 800 ATI mobility radeon HD4330 intel 2.0ghz core 2 duo It usually starts when I play videos, but even after I exit them it still produces tons of heat and is loud. To the point where if i leave it on my lap i get really sweaty after a few minutes.
There's dust in your fan/heatsink. Open up laptop, get the fan out and remove any dust. Clean the heatsink too. And yes this is possible after 6 months. If the problem persists, there might be a bad connection from the heatsink to your cpu/north bridge

Buy a laptop cooling pad
It could just be normal. Many laptops are notorious for having heat issues due to shitty ventilation designs. Try the cooling pad as suggested by Shustriy.
OP should post his laptop model.
carry around one of these
laptop coolers are good. i bought one a few months ago, reduced the temp by a good 20 degrees.
I have the same problem, easiest solution is to sit it on something hard, so that it has space under neath it for the heat to escape, or, every once in awhile, take a break and let it sit bottom up to cool off.
Just put some wood planks under it, works for me and its as good as laptop coolers.

good for winter
Just put a pillow under your laptop when it's on your lap, that's what I do. Don't leave the laptop against your bare skin though, it can leave marks over time.
