Damned if you do, damned if you don't: Bus driver under fire for not intervening in student beating
A brutal school bus beating in Florida last month left one 13-year-old boy with two black eyes and a broken arm. Among those witnessing the altercation was the driver of the bus, 64-year-old John Moody, who is being sharply criticized for his inaction,
Sucks for this guy, I don't think he felt like he would have been able to actually intervene without putting himself in serious danger. The focus should be on the three degenerates who walked off with relatively light punishments, not the driver who was afraid to physically intervene. In case if you're wondering and don't want to read the full article, the student was beaten because he informed the school that said students were drug-dealers.
Chances are if he did anything he'd get fired for it anyway.
I have the feeling that, if he had chose to barbarian rage out and intervene, he would've been fired for beating up "little kids".
...fuck, ninja'd. :v:
Florida...what are doing? Florida. Stahp.
i dunno i feel that as an adult you're kind of obligated to step in to protect a child no matter the personal risk. but at the same time if the driver was aware that those 3 were drug dealers i could understand standing back, yeah they'll bash a kid but you could easily see them murdering an adult that tries to fuck with them

thing is if he did step in he'd have a big chance of getting fired because school systems in america have this policy where they don't intervene in student fights and punish every party involved.
poor guy probably couldn't find another job if he lost that one.
the driver is also 60 years old and would be going up against a few younger kids. no way he could stop them unless the dude is buff as hell.
so yeah damned if you do damned if you don't... but at least if you do you made the effort to protect a child

i guess i'm a bit idealistic but again, i feel protecting a child from harm is more important than your own wellbeing
feel bad for the little guy. three angry druggies against one younger kid isn't a situation most people would do well in.
i think i would've done the same thing as the bus driver, to be honest. saying that i'd intervene is easy to say, but if something like that happened right in front of me, i'd be pretty petrified myself.
'Per Pinellas County school policy, bus drivers and teachers are not required to intervene; they can do so at their own risk.
In other counties, school officials are told not to even touch students, under any circumstances, unless they are being physically assaulted themselves..'
so their school doesn't have a policy of non-intervention, so he wouldn't have been fired if he did

There's a video of it, 3 big 15 year old's going all out against 1 kid. I don't think a guy in his mid 60's would be able to do much against that. Those kids were pissed.

It's not unrealistic to expect it, but it's down right inhuman to get angry at him for not stepping in. I'm not insinuating that you're mad at him, I'm just saying that the issue at hand here isn't that he didn't step in, it's that he was afraid to because of an unfair system that punishes everyone, regardless of what the actual story might be.
Then again, maybe he just didn't step in because he's 64 and those three young kids were basically in a fury.

well yeah exactly, and when its vs an adult they would probably go even more hardout
If this guy gets in trouble for not intervening I'm gonna be real upset.
So uh, didn't he have to concentrate on driving the bus?

Stahp with the stahp shit.
And now you see why the Chinese never stop to help people in some of those videos. It was only a matter of time before our country started doing it too. People that help are at risk of more damage than those they helped
bear in mind everyone that his district DOESN'T have a policy of 'if you intervene you're fired no matter what' AND they did not put charges against him for not intervening

uh the chinese are just assholes, i know in my area if a fight breaks out faculty cant legally touch you so it's hard to break up fights.
Nowadays adults can easily get sued over things like pushing a kid away for fighting another. I see exactly why this man didn't interfere.
What the fuck? I thought punishment for inaction was just a European thing?
