Four American special operations personnel were killed over the weekend in the crash of their aircraft in Djibouti as it returned from a mission, the US military said Monday. The U-28, a modified single engine turbo prop plane used by special operations units, crashed Saturday near Camp Lemonnier, a base used by the US military in the tiny Horn of Africa state. The Pentagon identified the victims as Captain Ryan Hall, 30, Captain Nicholas Whitlock, First Lieutenant Justin Wilkins, and senior airman Julian Scholten, 26. The four were based in Hulbert Field, Florida where they were assigned to special operations and intelligence squadrons. The US Africa Command said the U-28 was on a "routine flight" when it went down six miles (10 kilometers) from the Djibouti International Airport. The cause of the crash was under investigation. Wow, I had no idea we still used spy planes. I mean, maybe the U2 at high altitudes, but anything besides that is a surprise to me
They were probably just training as it never hurts to have some "old fashioned" spy planes operated by humans in case the drones get shut down by a virus or something else.

I think they may have blown their cover.

[sp]actually I'm only level 2 trolololol[/sp] plus it's a swiss plane that the finnish air force operates as liaison aircraft anyways, if it was so crap why would they buy it.
I want to believe this is all the perfect cover up for some black operations mission.

Pic of the plane:
surely painting it sky blue or something would be more stealthy than dark grey?
The U-28 isn't a spyplane, its a commercial airplane that the military uses for observation in non-hostile environments.
It only crashed because capitalist pig was pilot

You and alot of other people seem to be pretty touchy about your tech while having no problem in making fun about others. Also spyplanes we're kinda getting constantly shot down during the cold war in both soviet union and china. One of the warmer periods during Eisenhowers rule was ended when CIA managed to get a plane shot down in central russia. Ironically the president had jokingly warned (iirc) Allen Dulles not to cause an incident with the planes sometime earlier. Edit: Btw what does that wikipedia link even mean??

Edit: Btw what does that wikipedia link even mean??
that link was referring to the dumb rating on the "just like estonian/hungarian..." post and no, I think american military procurement is worse than a lot of other countries, due to the bloated budget, etc, allows the military to sink money into shit that doesn't work. This is just the wrong place to criticize it, since we bought a 100% foreign product, instead of a bloated creation of the American military industrial complex. It would be more appropriate to apply "American Quality" to the 1980s bradley that couldn't even survive a single RPG.
wow, you actually bothered searching for some old incident in finland just to reply to a guy who made a bad joke?
5 second googlejob for zing ratings, success.
Yeah, it's only allowed to play that game in threads about China!
since when do I play that game in threads about China? I hate China because I spent a month there and I can testify that it indeed is a shithole (literally), I remember spending 3 hours a day for a week on the pooper simply because the tap water is NOT potable. Not to mention its absolute crap human rights record, etc.
I live 3 miles from Hulbert AC-130's take off from Hulbert and go to Eglin's range and make noise all night long, wasting millions of dollars every time. But I can crank my games up loud and the neighbors won't even know. Thanks Taxpayers!
