• Tesla introduces new fold-flat seats config in Model X, making it SUV with best-in-class cargo
After shipping a few thousand Model X SUVs with 6 and 7-seat configurations, Tesla is finally ready to introduce its 5-seat configuration. which now the company now confirmed will come with fold-flat second-row seats. The result is what could very well be the best-in-class vehicle for storage with 88 cubic feet of it. ... 88 ft³ is a record for luxury SUVs. The Model X’s top competition like the BMW X5 (66.0 ft³), Porsche Cayenne (62.9 ft³), Audi Q7 (71.6 ft³), or Volvo CX90 (85.7 ft³), all fall short of the Model X with the new seat configuration.
https://electrek.co/2016/11/04/tesla-new-fold-flat-seats-config-in-model-x-making-it-best-in-class-cargo-vehicle/ I know this was an issue that a lot of people had when the Model X first came out so it's nice to see it changed.
Now just make the front passenger seat fold down and we are in business.
I love how all these changes are definitely based on Elon going "what are we missing? What we still not good at?" "I mean storage wise were not bad Volvo has like 86 cubic feet" "...make it 88".
They forgot the Escalade, which is 94.2ft for the 2017 model. The Escalade is classed as a Luxury SUV.
It's also fuck-ugly and the opposite of economical.
Idk, looks good to me. I wouldn't mind having one. I called these trucks with butts as a kid, I didn't know these were what SUVs were. It seems almost unfair to put the Model X and this in the same category.
I dunno, it feels less like a SUV and closer to a hatchback.
seats arent flush with the cargo area 0.000001/10 try harder next time tesla
so its the same as everyone else does, and they arent even flat congrats to tesla i guess?
This is classifies as an SUV? I called these trucks with butts as a kid, I didn't know these were what SUVs were. Believe it or not, this is within a few inches (4" wider, few inches taller, same length) of the size of the X. As far as economy, that isn't the question here, storage volume is.

Something they should've had from the start, as many angry X res holders have said in the past. But better late than never I guess. Those early res holders might be upset they can't have it now. Can't imagine they can retrofit without a cost. [editline]4th November 2016[/editline] It's also only available for the 5 seat configuration. If you wan't 7 seats (the 3rd row can already fold flat) you gotta deal with the designer seats.

Though I suspect the cost and time associated with trying to source the seats would make it unappealing.

There are like 3 different hardware versions of autopilot out there and depending on the day you ordered (not the year like most companies), you could have nothing or everything for the same price.
That angular discrepancy... at least a degree.
Keep in mind that the car seats are soft, it'll compress somewhat more when you put something weighty on it.
Idk, looks good to me. I wouldn't mind having one. I wouldn't say it fits Luxury SUV considering how fuckhuge it is but I guess it doesn't fit anywhere else [editline]4th November 2016[/editline] And goddamn they're nice but I like to stay the fuck away from Cadillac
but can i store a boat in one?
This is classifies as an SUV? I called these trucks with butts as a kid, I didn't know these were what SUVs were. It seems almost unfair to put the Model X and this in the same category.
Well, most modern SUVs its competing against are just like, tall wagons, aside from a few that GM and a few others puts out.
This is classifies as an SUV? I called these trucks with butts as a kid, I didn't know these were what SUVs were. It seems almost unfair to put the Model X and this in the same category.
Well that's because the Escalade is a more traditional SUV while the Model X is a crossover. [editline]5th November 2016[/editline]
Yeah I wouldn't mind having a $70,000+ SUV either. [editline]5th November 2016[/editline] last time I checked being small isn't what defined a luxury vehicle.
If anything I'd say being large is itself a sign of luxury. You can fit more things and have more leg room. Look at limousines.
Tesla likes to do this it seems. There are like 3 different hardware versions of autopilot out there and depending on the day you ordered (not the year like most companies), you could have nothing or everything for the same price.
Why should Tesla wait to implement changes? Just look at this list: https://sites.google.com/site/teslamotorsclubwiki/home/model-s/options-by-year of all the "major" changes. When you order your car, you get the car you ordered - with maybe improvements/added features if you're lucky. It is understandable that one could feel annoyed over missing a great feature, but thats not really fair. Why should other people miss features, because a minority would miss some features. I'd say that the smaller changes over time would be better - as you'd at maximum miss a few features. Imagine missing a whole Model S version if they were yearly based. The biggest disadvantage I see is spareparts - Even for Tesla that might be hard to keep a track of. Elon once said that there is a average of 20 hardware changes a week to the car.
That angular discrepancy... at least a degree.
I wonder how hard it would be to link the fold-down mechanism to something in the floor so that the seat lowers and angles down slightly so that it's flush. It'd be superfluous and the minuscule space savings probably wouldn't be worth the extra cost of designing and implementing something like that, but it's something to consider.
Be nice if they made these things more affordable
seats arent flush with the cargo area 0.000001/10 try harder next time tesla
Forget the fact that the seats aren't flush. What is in the box where the third row normally sits? Surely it's not just dead space?
