Raif Badawi to be publicly flogged every week for months after ‘insulting Islam
HE IS brought before the crowd and whipped relentlessly 50 times with a long, hard cane.
But his wounds won’t have healed by the time Raif Badawi is due to be brought back to the same site tomorrow where he will endure the horrific punishment all over again - as he will every Friday for the next five months.
The father-of-three’s crime may seem innocent enough to most, but according to Saudi authorities Badawi, who set up a website for public debate, he insulted Islam.
The blogger, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison and 1000 lashes for setting up the Saudi Arabian Liberals website, was publicly flogged last week after Friday prayers when he was lashed 50 times outside al-Jafali mosque in Jeddah.
im sure that will be an effective punishment that will make sure no one ever does such heinous things again, thus ensuring the peace and stability of the paradise that is saudi arabia. what a lovely country.
Last year, Badawi was initially sentenced to seven years in prison and 600 lashes in relation to the charges. But after an appeal, the judge stiffened the punishment.
Well isn't that nice
This is absolutely disgusting, and they fucking know it.
As well as the weekly flogging, the 31-year-old’s sentence also includes a 10-year travel ban, and a ban on appearing on media outlets.
Of course they do, but they don't care man their holy book says to cane bitches so they're gonna cane bitches.
I think this is something that should be answered with sanctions.
That is a cruel and stupid punishment.

But nope! Cause they're the 'allies'
Absolute disgusting. It's sickening that shitholes like this are allowed to continue doing shit like this in the 21st century.
Here, because I hope someone from saudia reads this :
You are all fucking cunts, and I hope you rot in whatever version of hell your shitty religion has. Barbaric, inhumane, and cuntish.
Everyone knows Saudi is literally just a place stuck in the middle ages with new technology
Horrible thing to do and to be forced to go through.
Literally the middle ages. Disgusting.

I'm pretty sure that most Saudis dissapprove of this, although they can't do much about it since it'd mean that they'd start questioning things which would lead to them being punished etc.
You really shouldn't categorize an entire country when these kinds of punishments are carried out by the super-conservative government, not by the people...

i think folks seriously need to stop this silly "minority" claim, which is bullshit, it's not the minority that support this crap, they have ample support among the population, yes things ARE changing recently(basically the youth doesn't hold the same dumb ideas as their leaders, which is great), but these guys aren't the majority... yet, maybe in a few decades they might.
Long-accepted religious assumptions are being disputed — whether it be clerical authority, theological rationales for monarchy, Wahhabism’s superiority, or male control of women. Long-accepted religious assumptions are being disputed — whether it be clerical authority, theological rationales for monarchy, Wahhabism’s superiority, or male control of women.
The kingdom’s religious scene is also feeling the shock waves of the Arab revolutions, which have unleashed politically activist Salafi movements ranging from the Muslim Brotherhood to the anarchistic, violent jihadists of the Islamic State. These organizations reject the Wahhabi teaching that Muslims must avoid political activities and give complete loyalty and obedience to their ruler.
"People are still Salafi Wahhabi, but they are redefining the concept of Salafi Wahhabi differently from what was limited to us here by the government," observed Bassim Alim, a lawyer in Jeddah. "They are more open to sympathy with other schools of thought."
i know everyone wants to desperately believe that the muslim nations are merely being opressed by asshole governments, but that's only half-true.
You cannot have islam and free speech. Such a concept where one can debate islam freely is not accepted. In islamic countries there is only one ideology and if you don't accept it you will be punished in some form.
This video is of a fairly recent incident in Pakistan where a Christian woman was found to speak Ill of Islam. She is or was in jail and is set to be put to death while her family is forced to flee.

So what about all the Muslims in the world that support peoples right to free speech, or do they not count because you found this youtube video of a thing that happened in Pakistan once.

I hate to say this, but is it possible that some other country could 'kidnap' him for 10 years?

They are a minority like this poor man. It's unlikely that Islamic countries will reform to ever allow true freedom of speech. Turkey is supposed to be secular and the most progressive of all islamic nations and yet they banned twitter and facebook and recently Charlie heado.
Most muslims that i know don't really support this bullshit, thats why some try to get out of those regions of the worlds so they don't have to get whipped for just question about their religion.
Mostly its just the wack jobs and corrupt bastards that enforce this so they can stay in power.

Technically every country over there trying to be ultra-conservative like Saudi arabia or any other countries are half the reason why the Muslim people have a bad name, besides the terrorists and ISIS.

this is probably the most glaring and sad example, since ataturk was the arguably the one guy in the middle east that most pushed secularism, and even then, he only managed to partially succeed considering how turkey is atm.
here is a great article on that

You realize this guy is a Saudi Muslim?
Like seriously.
This is really fucking dumb.
I'm glad I live somewhere where I can say whatever the hell I want.

Lived there for seven years. The country is the heart of Islamic terrorism worldwide, and institutionally it wholeheartedly embraces the expansionist, extremist mentality that Islamic moderates shun. It's a shithole in the truest sense of the word.
[editline]17th January 2015[/editline]
Unfortunately, Saudi Arabia is also the heart of Islam in the same sense as the Vatican is the heart of Catholicism. And IS has so much support for one reason: They have the blessing of religious leaders in Saudi Arabia.

A family who are very close to mine used to live in Abu dhabi (yes dubai )with one of the members (whom I am good friends with ) working in Saudi for about 3 or 4 years. The stories I've been told were tragic. Trust me, it is completely true to generalise Saudi like that. Nobody has any real issues with the country because it benefits them, because everything is pretty much put on as a burden to women. Horrendously oppressed but hey, that's how they've always lived. I don't think they really care unless it affects them.
You realize this guy is a Saudi Muslim?
I'm not pushing anything on the religion itself, I know it's just a way to push their doctrine. That comment was aimed at saudi, not islam.
But nope! Cause they're the 'allies'
They don't DESERVE that kind of protection. But rather than wish dire misfortune upon a dire nation, I wish it upon the cave-dwelling bumpkins who judged and sentence this man based on their collective mental sickness.
It is better to hater the individual than to hate the group, even if hate in itself isn't the perfect solution to the problem of mankind's enemies.
