Hey guys,
okay so im trying to install a subwoofer in my car. I have the amp all hooked up except for the RCA cables. Im keeping my stock head unit for a while until i get some more money, so i have to install a line output converter. The problem im having is that i have no idea what wires im supposed to be tapping into. I know its supposed to be the rear left and right speakers, i just cant find those wires. I looked up a wire chart for my specific car and i know what color the cables are, but i still cant really seem to find them or even really where to start looking for them, ive looked all behind my head unit and there are multiple wires with the same colors it looks like and i dont know what ones im supposed to be doing. Any help would be great. Im driving a 2006 pontiac vibe.
If you need pictures or anything let me know and i can get them for you
Just pull the wires from the rear speakers themselves, a lot less RCA to run also. Your car could also have a factory AMP (Monsoon or Bose?) that's located somewhere in the car.
Does your vibe have the Moonroof? If so, you have the "Moon and Tunes" package, same as my 2004 Vibe. It has a factory amplifier installed under the passenger seat with a strange 2ohm per channel impedence that makes everything sound like crap. As far as coloration on the back of the headunit (which they obtained from Toyota, since it's a Matrix basically) is not useful to anyone including yourself. No harnesses rely work correctly for installing any kind of aftermarket HU and amps, and I had to basically butcher the harnesses behind the radio. There should be three that go to the HU.

there's a lot of how-to's and electrical diagrams for what you need. Also www.matrixownersonline.com will be the exact same information.
The factory amp will not drive a sub, and you will not need a line-out converter for it if you are just going to splice wires. Pulling the leads out of the doors is tricky, and you have to basically destroy the paper speakers themselves to take them out and see what color the wiring is. This car uses about 10 wires that are all the same color (including the rear speaker right lead) and all of them do different things. The car was meant to have a subwoofer as well. AS such, open up the rear hatch in the trunk area, then open the tinier hatch right behind it. There is a black trough for holding murder weapons or something. Remove the 10mm bolts that hold it on, and underneath will be a white clip meant to bridge to a subwoofer amplifier (option). The wires on that will be what you need.
If you do not have moon and tunes, then there will be a simple wire harness that is easily tapped behind the hU. Still, the colors don't make sense.
oh wow man thats fantastic, that helps a lot! i do have a moon roof, and a subwoofer that i got with the upgrade thing, its an 8in monsoon i believe. I found the amp under the passenger seat and i guess im gonna go try to find the white clip to bridge to the amp. how do i bridge it?

Well first off, I know its possible with a little modification to add a 10" woofer in place of the 8 if that's what you have, in the same housing. As far as bridging it, let me know what you plan on installing, and where, and I'll see what wire colors you need for everything and where they are. I bypassed my amp and installed a Polk PA digital amp for a sub. IT ran me about 100 bucks used off ebay. Then I added two banana plugs so I could take my subwoofer in and out.
