The car: 1984 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale Brougham w/ Olds 307CID Type Y(5.0L) RWD w/ Turbo 350 trans.
The problems:
This has just started to happen after I replaced my ignition coil, and when the weather here started to get warmer.
After about 25MPH, the engine shifts up into 2nd gear. The engine begins to bog down, and stutter under acceleration. This is an intermittent issue that seems to only occur when the car is in drive. It also happens almost all the time when the car is idling in drive (like at a stop light) and when the break is applied. Making me think there is a vacuum issue somewhere.
Sometimes when making a sharp right or left in idle (The damn thing does idle high sometimes, it'll cruise at 20-30mph without any gas being applied from start up) the car will stall out. It will immediately start backup when put into neutral and started (I tend to do this rolling).
I have also noticed another intermittent issue with the acceleration from dead stop. It will sometimes feel like the engine is about to quit right there... and has also done it when making a 90degree turn from a full stop.
I also notice a rich gasoline smell coming from the engine after its been doing this on a warm day. Maybe the ACTS is bad?
The car is pretty much original. With 141k miles on the car (all original, no rebuilding or major engine/trans work) and it being 27 years old, perhaps some of the emissions or vacuum systems are failing.
Things I've checked:
EGR - The EGR valve looks fine, however the flex tube that comes from the exhaust manifold up to the EGR is worn and cracked at the manifold.
Vacuum Hoses - None are cracked, worn, or need replacement.
Things I think that can be the cause of the issue:
PCV bad
AC bad (Not the air conditioner (That still works after 11 years) but the Air Cleaner Temp Sensor; Which is located in the air cleaner pan)
Fuel Filter on its way out. I'm not entirely sure on this idea, but I do know once they go bad that engine will not turn on at all.
Drivetrain/Engine issue. The check engine light does not come on, so I really don't think this is a cause....
Carb needs a clean/rebuild - Its a Quadrabog 4BBL. Still looks original.. but clean.
Smog Pump/A.I.R. - Apart of the emissions system, it pumps in air to improve emissions... I don't know if this can cause the problem (I'm not extremely familiar with AIR, you don't see any cars after 92 with one of these in it...)
Things that you may also help me out on:
This car is old.. yeah, we all know that. But its in damn good condition except for the issues I listed above. But what I don't have with the car is the user manual, emission diagrams.. or any of the diagrams in that matter. I tried google, but perhaps some of you may have a diagram of the Olds 307 layouts.
I need the emissions, vacuum, and accessory belt diagrams. A full engine exploded layout will be great too.
If it's a vacuum leak you can be sure by covering the intake with your hand. If it stalls, you're fine.
Fuel filter and distributor cap should probably be your first port of call because they're relatively cheap bits.
I just replaced the ignition coil. I'm replacing the fuel components except line and pump (Canister, CPV, Filter) and some of the smog control components (EGR, PCV and some AIR components).
My main worry is that I didn't swap out the distributor cap or rotor. Since there was very little carbon on both ends and I cleaned it up when I swapped the coil pack on it. The previous owner forgot the importance of the ground strap and burnt up the old coil pack on it. It didn't seem to cause any damage on the harness or the connectors.

I am going to clean up the EGR too and probably clean the ACTS. On another note, at a quarter tank, it seemed to work just fine. Perhaps that fuel filter is going bad and isn't getting the correct amount of pressure through. I won't repair these components till the weekend though, so I'll let you know.
If there is any olds fanatics, or classic car enthusiasts; please do post in this thread if you have an ideas.
Also, these diagrams will be EXTREMELY helpful. So if anyone has them, pleeease let me know.
Well, I haven't had a chance to get a good luck under the carb or anything incase of an EGR leak or something of the likes due to the weather here in Illinois being... well, like summer.
I have noticed one a filter coming off the Right (driver side) valve head seems to be soaked with oil. I'm unsure what this part is. Does anyone know?

never mind... its the breather cap.. these fucking carburated engines.
