The fate of Osama bin Laden's remains have been called into question after emails leaked from an intelligence analysis firm say the body of the terror leader was actually sent to the U.S. for cremation.
According to the emails, the Al Qaeda boss was shot and killed during the famous Navy SEAL Team Six raid on his compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, was transported back to the U.S. and cremated.
The emails were allegedly obtained by the hacker group Anonymous from Stratfor, an organisation dealing with analysis of intelligence and geopolitical analysis.
It's also known as the 'Shadow CIA'.
Last week, Anonymous announced that it had gotten access to 2.7million of the firm’s confidential correspondences, and said they could provide 'the smoking gun for a number of crimes'.
The hackers said Stratfor, based in Austin, Texas, were 'clueless' when it came to database security.
After bin Laden was killed in the famous raid in Pakistan on May 2 2011, the Obama administration said his body was buried at sea off the USS Carl Vinson - in accordance with Islamic tradition.
But in a particular set of emails given to WikiLeaks, the firm’s vice president for intelligence, Fred Burton, says he doubts the official White House version of what happened to bin Laden's body.
Stratfor’s vice-president for intelligence, Fred Burton, says the body was 'bound for Dover, [Delaware] on [a] CIA plane' and 'onward to the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Bethesda [Maryland]'.

Oh boy I sure do love being lied to by the government!
thanks again obummer
Its a rumor, leaked stratfor mail lists aren't that reliable.

The FBI went ahead and arrested several members of LulzSec after the e-mails were released though.
In my opinion, the federal government would not have stepped in if they feared something less than a rumor was being leaked.
Gee how did I not guess this, Amurrica
No seriously this is what I suspected for a long time after they announced he was buried at sea.
let the dumbwagon commence because of my opinion

Stratfor isn't a government agency, theft is a crime and the FBI are a law enforcement agency.
Taking a story written by the Daily Mail as 100% genuine isn't a clever thing to do. Sensationalism at its best.
Does this really matter? I mean it's bad they lied, but it's simply not the thing we should be focusing on after an infamous person like Bin Laden is killed.

Totally unrelated. Lulzsec had nothing to do with this, and the FBI had nothing to do with Osama's body or Stratfor. The Stratfor leak also came weeks ago.

Not taking care of the remains of an infamous Islamic terrorist leader is a serious issue, especially when our enemies take it seriously. If it's true, then we could see serious retribution. It also confirms that they likely have photos they weren't releasing, and that they were lying to us, which is another serious issue.

The FBI has been after LulzSec for awhile now...
Damn, denied of a religiously appropriate burial. Don't get me wrong, he was a terrible person, but isn't that kind of low? He's dead after all.

Daily mail is only one of the news agencies reporting about this.
You can pretty much google Osama Bin Laden cremated and find a lot of articles.

According to several articles LulzSec was the agency who actually obtained the e-mails.
Didn't they do the buried at sea thing because that is one of the ways that you are supposed to bury muslims? If this is true, maybe that is just a story they made up so that there wouldn't be people claiming they desecrated his corpse or something.

Just seems suspicious to me that they suddenly want to "chop off the head of LulzSec" after this specific leak, instead of much earlier.

Al-Qaeda like to flip out about things, I know, but it's not like anyone's going to hold back on American troops and are reserving something just in case they get even angrier. If it weren't for this, it'd be for something else.
The lying though, now that's a problem.

The primary reason for burying Osama at sea was to assure no sort of monument to bin Laden would appear at his grave site.
Virtually no nation wanted to harbor that and America certainly did not want to see that happen. So they chose burying at sea.

It's fodder though for nations like Pakistan who will want to put America in a bad light as "disrespectful to Muslims."

At the moment I don't see any other "large" news broadcasters running the story. I may be wrong, but I think most of them are lifting it from the Daily Mail.
I'll believe it might have some truth when it hits BBC/CNN etc
the entire bin laden thing is really fishy
Daily Mail

Wish people would remember this, stratfor isn't a government agency and they do not have access to the truth. Everything contained in their emails is pure speculation based upon research.

They could have also cremated him and not created a monument but that is against the rules for Muslims apparently. I'd say it's a reasonable reason for them to lie if they did.

Not really. Lulzsec was a scourge for computer system security who constantly attacked various government agencies, private companies and so forth for no real reason. They just happen to receive information about the "head" of Lulzsec around the same time a mailing list got leaked.
And was Lulzsec ever confirmed to have leaked that list? I think you're just being a paranoid delusional.
lol daily mail

Assange was asked if the release had anything to do with the recent hacking at a press conference a few days (weeks?) ago and his response was the usual "we don't talk about our sources" so make of that what you will.

That doesn't mean anything.

Precisely, hence "make of that what you will".

The article itself says the information was from LulzSec.

How does that change the fact that these emails did appear in the heap of leaked mails?
Just because it's a shit paper doesn't mean they make up their news.
What would they gain from lying about this? I doubt a lot of Americans would've cared about whether or not he got a proper religious ritual to send him to the afterlife. Slightly more secure transport back? I doubt it's handled in public locations anyway. And why ship him to the US and then cremate him? Did everyone want to look him in the face once more or something?
I don't get it.
