• Is there any kind of money to be made with a server?

I'm thinking of buying a computer to work as a server, I have 6mb/s up and 2 down unlimited internet. Is there any way at all I could sell a portion of my internet, hard drive or cpu cycles, at least so the server could pay for it's own electricity? Can anyone tell me what's the best way to earn money by maintaining a server?
Well, you could offer hosting services but with the connection don't try to host too much.
There is but only on a commercial connection, not a home one.

Host a cod/cs server. Not many people are interested in a home server though
Donations?
Best way to gain money from a server is to offer the chance for people to become leet with donations. Although for anyone to at least donate, you will have to create a good and popular server.
wtf you have more up than down?
wtf you have more up than down?
That's the point of a server, they need high upload speeds and don't need high download speeds. Most ISP's cap your home internet upload rate so you can't turn your home PC into a server. If you have a server and a server-designed connection then the opposite is true.
Possibly but only in exceedingly rare occasions. I'm active on a server thats been around three years, 20,000 unique members over its history, 4,000 active ones, and its barely breaking even while hosting a SAMP, Ventrilo, and forum.

Not to mention it's at his home
