This is pretty interesting; on one hand I find interest in spicing up the MOBA formula, but on the other hand I worry that having "optional sidequests" in a MOBA, where you usually need to work with the main objective, might prove to be somewhat of a "distraction" from the main objective of destroying your enemy's "Ancient". That being said, taking on a "Roshan" kind of boss monster is in itself a sidequest; you travel to the Tarn of Roshan, fight the giant monster, and your team gets Gold when you kill it.
But aside from that, the concept of side-objectives in a MOBA would need to be refined and demonstrated before it'd become an accepted "trope" of the genre. Personally, I've an idea of how certain side-objectives could work in a theoretical construct, a MOBA style game that has stronger strategy elements and more "depth".
The way such side-objectives would work involves team resources being required for making shop items; this way, the whole item-building mechanic requires working as a team to gather resources, make items and build defences. For example making consumables would require a Jungler to go into the jungle and farm, gathering not only stuff from Neutral Creeps but also the plants (trees and tall grass, maybe even flowers), and bring them back to base to put in some sort of Alchemy Pot (it'd operate on a similar principle to a Tyranid Reclamation Pool). Another example would involve making weapons and armour from the stuff found in a sort of "Dungeon" sub-level that exists under the main map, killing Dungeon Creeps and picking up their loot to bring back to a Scrapyard, where they are broken down into their base components that can be used to make the passive items needed.
Some might see such things as "non-streamlined", preferring to have a "clear-set path" on their battlefield, but I think that if side-objectives were properly implemented and added something beneficial to the experience, they could certainly work.
Huh, looks pretty neato actually. I've played most of the recent MOBA games like LoL, HoN, Dota and the awful ones like Battle for Graxia and whatnot so its nice to see something mixing it up a bit. Might have to buy into this closed beta.
when i think of quests in a moba game, i think of it like a mandatory thing to do and a focus on a certain target. Think of it as a quest to kill this hero and everyone gather to gank that hero during mid-game, although it be a game of hide and seek in a way.
Ok so last night I bought this to check it out and it turns out they removed the commander aspect of it because they didnt think that it fit in or something
So they lost the gimmick that made them seem different from the other 100 MOBA games, its still a lot higher quality than the other shit clones but that's not saying much when it doesn't even have matchmaking yet
Are they allowing video footage of this game yet, or is it still restricted?
