Following recent reports, the software giant is appointing Satya Nadella as its new CEO to replace Steve Ballmer. 46-year-old Nadella will take over immediately, allowing Ballmer to retire early. Nadella had been part of a number of candidates that Microsoft was believed to have interviewed for the role, with the company originally pushing to name its Ballmer successor before the end of last year. Despite the search extending into 2014, the timing of the CEO announcement is important as it places Nadella in charge ahead of the closure of Microsoft’s Nokia deal and its ongoing reorganization. Nadella is a Microsoft veteran, having joined the company over 20 years ago. Born in India in 1969, Nadella studied Electrical Engineering at the Mangalore University before moving to the US to study computer science at the University of Wisconsin. He originally worked at Microsoft rival Sun Microsystems before heading to Redmond to work on research for Microsoft’s online services division. He has held a number of roles inside Microsoft, working in the company’s business division on Office, and even has some experience building the Bing search engine. Most importantly, he has been instrumental in transforming Microsoft’s cloud business while previously leading its Server and Tools business.
Good to have some newer blood in the command seat.
Honestly never heard of him before the rumours that he'd be CEO, but considering how long he's been there and that MS knows what they're doing I'm sure it'll be fine.
I wonder if she'll consider selling the xbox division, I heard rumors that its been discussed before.
It's a he
Hipster as fuck
Hipster as fuck
feminine sounding name for ironic effect
The guy worked in pretty much every part of Microsoft - hopefully he'll use that experience to make Microsoft a better company.
I was going to make a shitty joke about his last name sounding like nutella but I couldn't think of one. But yeah, hopefully he makes windows good again and removes dew and doritos from xbox.
looks like steve jobs it REALLY feels like microsoft is trying to be apple, and that's a bad thing
looks like steve jobs it REALLY feels like microsoft is trying to be apple, and that's a bad thing
trying to adapt to an ever changing market =/= parroting apple and just because Microsoft's new CEO kinda sorta looks like someone who died 2 years ago doesn't mean they're trying to be similar.

Bill Gates is stepping down as chairman too http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-25973762
Microsoft also said founder Bill Gates would step down as chairman. Mr Gates will take up a new role as technology adviser and will also retain a seat on the board

Bill Gates is stepping down as chairman too http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-25973762
So in other words, he does whatever the fuck he wants.
Elop will be head of the Surface, Windows Phone and Xbox division. Sadly however he was also the person who wanted to get rid of Xbox. Seems Xbox will be on it's last legs :v:
I'm thankful because it's not Stephen Elop. He ruined Nokia for a place in Microsoft.
Thank God Elop didn't make CEO, that would have been the worst decision ever made. But the fact he's been put as the head of other divisions including xbox is dumbfounding, he wanted to sell that business for fuck sake. Anyhow, it's pretty cool Satya has been chosen. He's an engineer and seems to be the right man for the job to move MS forward.
Indian pride represent; I'm happy for the guy.
Bill Gates is stepping down as chairman too http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-25973762
that was actually part of his deal when he left Microsoft, sell off his majority share by 2010, but it got extended to 2015 cas his share was so fucking huge
looks like steve jobs it REALLY feels like microsoft is trying to be apple, and that's a bad thing
"Guys we need a new CEO I'm retiring" "How about this guy, he looks like Steve Jobs" "BRILLIANT"
Most importantly, he has been instrumental in transforming Microsoft’s butt business while previously leading its Server and Tools business.

"Guys we need a new CEO I'm retiring" "How about this guy, he looks like Steve Jobs" "BRILLIANT"
Yeah it had nothing to do with him being a skilled engineer with 20+ years of employment at Microsoft.
46-year-old Nadella ... Born in India in 1969
Is this bothering anyone else?
Is this bothering anyone else?
Time traveler
Yeah it had nothing to do with him being a skilled engineer with 20+ years of employment at Microsoft.
Uh did you read the post he was replying too p. sure he was satirizing that
Yeah it had nothing to do with him being a skilled engineer with 20+ years of employment at Microsoft.
I was kinda making fun of the quoted post if you didn't notice
Elop will be head of the Surface, Windows Phone and Xbox division. Sadly however he was also the person who wanted to get rid of Xbox. Seems Xbox will be on it's last legs :v:
Selling off Xbox would be retarded to such a degree that whoever would do that should be fired on the spot. Also, to the people saying this guy seems like a "hipster", he's a damn electrical engineer and he has worked at Microsoft for twenty years. And yes, Bill Gates stepped down, but for the time being he'll actually spend more time with the company than he did before.
So in other words, he does whatever the fuck he wants.
honestly, if bill gates wants to do something who's gonna stop him [editline]4th February 2014[/editline] you could sue him for a billion dollars and it wouldn't put a dent in his money
This is fantastic news, I've always loved Nutella.
Bill Gates is stepping down as chairman too http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-25973762
seems like he's weaning himself of power or weaning MS of his input seriously gradual shit though
god forbid someone wear trendy glasses this guy seems cool. i guess he worked on bing though, poor fella. i wonder when was the last time he did any actual development work. it would be pretty cool for a CEO with something like an ee degree to contribute to actual work on a product. but i'm sure he'll have his hands full.
