It’s been three years since the fourth season of Adult Swim’s hit animated series Metalocalypse and over two years since the special Metalocalypse: The Doomstar Requiem special. And while a fifth season was presumed to have been in the works, everyone got excited when a teaser trailer appeared on Adult Swim stating that the show was returning on April 29th. Sadly, however, creator Brendon Small himself took to Twitter to put the kibosh on the fact that a fifth season was coming, stating that the network ran a trailer for the fourth season for some reason. What’s really disappointing, however, is that Small also says that the reason there hasn’t been a season five is that it was the network’s decision:
For those complaining about lack season 5. Was a network decision- I wanted to do it as a final big mini series. They said no. True story. - Brendon Small
Even as a metalhead, I never really cared for this show. Good riddance, I guess?
Why you hating OP, Metalocalypse was cool as hell.
It was fun while it lasted. After all I feel as if it was repeating itself around the same themes but that may be just my point of view.
Metalocalypse was fucking metal, it's part of the reason I even got into metal in the first place.
Well that and Blind Guardian.
That's a shame, I hope the same doesn't happen to Venture Bros
I was super into this show during high school - it wasn't perfect but it's really enjoyable and definitely deserves closure
first ATHF and now metalocalypse? are they getting rid of all the good shows or something?
I think it's a good show, at the very least it deserves a proper finale, should have just given it a mini series like he wanted. It's better than some of the shit they have on now, like Mr. Pickles or The Jack and Triumph Show, don't even get me started on that one holy shit.
Regardless, Brendon Small is an amazingly talented musician so at least there's that to look forward to.

Not hating on it! I watched the first episodes and it just didn't stick with me. :/

However, Brendon Small is awesome!
Aw man, I absolutely loved this series. Although they made a bit of a mistake of almost doubling the episode lengths for season three (the humorous brutality was really enhanced by never getting to linger on any one scene for too long) it was still something I'd go out of my way to watch.
Come to think of it, I just realized that I don't turn on my TV nowadays for much besides playing games or watching DVDs of movies/old finished shows. Metalocalypse was one of the last things I actually "tuned in" for. Huh.

Also, disturbingly appropriate thread music:

Fuck, my favorite adult swim show. That totally sucks. I just rewatched doomstar requiem yesterday even.
Metalocalypse owns, I've been waiting for the fifth season for too long, and this is sad news
Seriously.. the show is brilliant.
One of my favourite songs to come out of the show.

holy shit rip
Most of my friends in high school were metal heads and we all loved the hell out of this show. Hell, we all still do.

also, op, ur bad for not liking this show. literal greatest art of the last thousand generations

If they don't kill all the good shows, how will they make room for more Family Guy spin offs?
Can't help but wonder what show [as] will kill next.
I hope Eric Andre, Venture Bros and Rick and Morty survive if they're doing a "purge" of old shows. Pretty sure those 3 are all signed on for at least one more season tho.

Probably Rick and Morty when they realize it's actually good and not just randumb Robot Chicken/Family Guy style gag shit. I'm surprised that Super Jail is still going honestly. It's amazing but I can't help but feel it's on the block based on what the president of AS is doing here. I'd put my bets on Super Jail or Squid Billies.
I thought most people had this figured out by now. Doomstar Requiem happened back in 2013, if you think about it. That's forever ago; that's Breaking Bad/Eastbound & Down forever ago. I'm glad it's getting a proper finale at least, but this isn't surprising news.

Eric Andre has only gotten more popular as time has gone on. The reasons old shows are scrapped is because they're not getting any bigger anymore. Venture Bros is the only one on that list that would even remotely be considered for scrapping. Rick and Morty is quite new.
Metalocalypse was pretty much the only reason why I kept watching Adult Swim. I just loved the humor the show had, and Brendon Small is just an amazingly talented man. Not only did he write for the show, but he voiced most of the band (Nathan, Skwisgaar, Pickles) as well as some other characters, and wrote the music (which includes playing the guitar, and all of the guitar solos).
Every season was great, though I thought it hit its apex in Season 3, probably due to the episodes being 21 minutes instead of 11 minutes and having much more characterization and backstory in them. And Doomstar Requiem is just amazing. Not to mention it sort of left things on a cliffhanger, so I'm glad it's getting some sort of a finale.
Nonetheless, it's been an awesome ride, and I'm sad to be getting off of it.

I am now more surprised at the fact that Squidbillies is still running. I haven't heard anything about it at all.
Aw man. It was such a good show. It was clear that it was made by genuine metalheads instead of corporate producers with a pop culture check-list.
Didn't Brendon Small announce that season 5 had been refused ages ago?

If this means Rick & Morty can get a higher budget, I'm all for it.
I'm hoping that they're willing to make some good things come out of the shows they've canceled. I love ATHF and Metalocalypse but something new would be lovely.
That sounded more rude than I intended.
I wonder if that means no more tours..probably
