A Conservative MP has denied being a bigot after he spokes out against same-sex marriage - by declaring he once fought a gay boxer.
David Davies, the MP for Monmouth, was accused of bigotry after claiming most parents would prefer their children not to be gay.
In a bid to defend himself, he took to Twitter and said: "Once fought gay boxer. Respect & like.trained with after bout so not bigoted. actvists calm down- listen to other views."
He also posted a video of himself fighting Charles Jones, nicknamed the "Pink Pounder".
Earlier, the MP - who is a father-of-three - had written on the micro-blog site: "I'm no bigot. bigots r the activists who wont accept a different view."

The MP's Tweet about his boxing match
The row was sparked when Mr Davies spoke to BBC Radio Wales about the coalition's plans to change the law to allow gay marriages in church.
He said: "If there are any sort of areas where there isn't full equality with married couples then I'd be more than happy to support making changes to civic ceremonies, so I really don't know why we need to go ahead with this at all.
"I think most people are very tolerant and have no problem at all if people are gay but, and I hate to say this in a way because I expect it's going to cause controversy, but I think most parents would prefer their children not to be gay, knowing most parents want grandchildren if nothing else."
Mr Davies said he was not sure the Government could guarantee churches would not be forced to hold gay marriage ceremonies given the power of European courts.
"What I'm concerned about is what we were originally given a consultation on, and that is having gay marriage recognised by law which opens to door to all churches being forced to do that," Mr Davies said.
"It changes the way that sex education is going to be taught in schools. It's going to have an impact on teachers and I think it goes against what a lot of people feel very strongly about, particularly within the Conservative Party.
"There is a political calculation here, at some level, that this is going to be good and if we go ahead with it David Cameron's going to be carried shoulder high back into number 10 by Stonewall activists, and it simply isn't going to happen.
"What is going to happen is that we're going to lose a large number of very loyal activists who've gone out and campaigned for us over the years and who don't like this idea, so politically it's barking mad."
Mr Davies is a keen sportsman and has fought in several charity matches as "The Tory Tornado". In February 2011, he became the president of the Welsh Amateur Boxing Association.
Eww what a prick. I hate it when people are like "I'M NO RACIST I ALLOW BLACK PEOPLE TO CLEAN MY HOUSES!"
"i'm not a bigot, I beat the shit out of a gay guy once!"
:I
I don't even know who this guy is but I already hate him.
"i'm not a racist, i once had a fight arranged for me and the guy turned out to be black!"
"I'm not racist, I have plenty of black friends!"
Well, its kinda like that, except worse
Who won should be the real question here. If the MP won be is most certainly a bigot.
I'm just gonna treat that as a bad joke, because no-one can seriously say that and mean it.
Unless they've completely lost connection to reality, and in that case, what are he doing in politics except fucking shit up.
Here is the video of the actual fight about 4 years ago.

A superb bit of criticism, thanks.
I think he's against same sex marriage as it doesn't agree with the church's belief that same sex marriages are wrong in the eyes of god. Not because he hates gays.
Which is actually fair enough if you're a bible basher, I don't think they'd force Sikhs to have their hair cut.
On the flip side, religion is a load of old crap so anything we can do to abolish it is fine for me.
Edit - Yeah his comment on parents not wanting gay children is pretty moronic.
MP was dumb and his statement was dumb.

I'm rather fond of my religion, thanks. I'd rather it not be abolished so I have to hide my bible from the authorities and the public.

Yes I love being told that I'm inherently the antithema to existance itself, but they don't hate me as a person so it's ok!!
"Hate the sin, love the sinner" is such a stupid load of crock.

Hahahahahaha.

That is such a bullshit excuse for being against gay marriage.

The statement is rather foolish, but not one that deserves a knee jerk "HE HATES GAYS" reaction.
Note that religion preaches more hate than this bloke does, and for more unacceptable reasons.
