Cool, that will bring some rad indie games and software.
So at least there is one piece of good news coming out of this steaming pile of shit.
I don't think they quantified exactly how much faster this is than kinect 1, but if the promotional video is anything to go by then it looks like they've practically eliminated lag. If that's the case, then I'm very excited about what this could mean for home VR.
Whys the camera not centered, how annoying
The Kinect is great because it's a cheap and easy to use/edit motion sensor, which is ideal for media/engineering students.
On a note actually related to the article; although it would be great for niche indie games, it will probably be an expensive peripheral for a £5 game.

How is it a steaming pile of shit? Everything was great news. There's going to be minimal porting needed now that both ps4 and xbox one have x86 AMD's cpus and gpus (APUs in case of ps4).
Now that ps4 and xbox one are straight up PCs they are going to require installation and not be backwards compatible but so what? If you want to play x360 and ps3 games, then hold on to your old consoles.

please be kidding please be kidding please be kidding
aside from people having absolutely retarded opinions, I could see this working well with Oculus Rift.

I'm a pc gamer. I've only ever owned a sega genesis and a gba. To me, this is the best news ever, no more shit ports.

My computer is already faster than xbox one and ps4. So, even if they somehow fuck up the optimization for lower end computers, i'm still in the clear.
I would love to see this with that Oculus Rift demo.
Muscle/force prediction, IR tracking, emotion tracking, heart rate scanning, can detect if you hand is open or closed, and can tell if you're looking away from the screen.
I foresee a bright (dark?) future in indie horror games with this thing.

I guess your right about the port thing being pretty good, but besides that and Kinect 2.0 being able to be used on PC, nothing truly good has come out of the Xbox "One".

The lag will probably wreck you, I doubt they've gotten everything down to the ~30 ms the rift can do
Now we hope they don't charge more than they'd charge for a normal Kinect 2 for it, like they tried to do with the first one.
Really excited to see how the Kinect 2 performs - the old kinect revolutionized 3d sensing, even if it didn't do much for gaming. I'm sure the robotics market will find even cooler things to do with it now if it's better supported and higher quality (and with the addition of the occulus rift, hopefully find a better place in the gaming community)

Well the real question is what's wrong with it? All I've seen so far is a bunch of retards whining about 100% optional features. The only negative thing I've seen is account locking of some sort for (download games ? ) and nobody's really bothered to much by that when steam does that for -everything-.

It doesn't need to be that fast, it's important for the rift to have a low latency because it's feeding directly into your eyes but if the kinect didn't update as fast it'd just make your motion a bit behind where it should be instead of hurting your eyes.
I read somewhere that it processes 2 gigabits per second for the Xbox One's Kinect. Can't find the link for it though.

Those units don't make sense.

Not quite. It's capable of transferring data back to the Xbox at 2Gb/s.

They actually do, I misread them.

For some reason, this made me think of the Manhack Arcade from the HL2 Beta.
Its so real that it hurts!
Awesome! I love using the Kinect on my PC.
