Hey, my school gives internet to the whole school via Ethernet cables. Is it possible to turn that into a wireless connection? Like attaching a router to it or something.
attach a wireless router to it
Ethernet wall port <--------------> Router Input
Use a regular Cat5 ethernet cable to bridge the two and insta-wireless. Hooray.
Break into the server bank and attach a long range wireless router to an unused port, then hide it really well.
Not really, it isn't that hard.
I could hide in Art. Nobody would ever suspect it there and the teacher is a moron with computers so she wouldn't know.
You could just kill the art teacher and use her room.
Can anybody suggest me a long range router?
or just get a cheap one from a scrap pile and set up repeaters throughout the building.
Well if there is any form of IT technician, they would notice an extra DHCP server on the network. Plus well, you know, a fucking wireless network showing up in range when their in the building.

good for you, I guess
Be warned setting up a rogue wireless network is illegal and you have a chance of being caught with it.

My school used WiFi, probably still does.
Runs XP too.

My school has wifi, for use of laptops and such around the building. Not all schools/school boards are like your's.
Man, my school recently bought some "new" computers. And they run Windows XPSP1/2 with Internet Explorer 6. I was like: WTF, that's just a big waste of our tax payer's money, who's running the joint? Monkeys? It costed the district 50-75k for 10 schools. That's what you can spell the word "Jackass".
You realize they probably already had the XP licenses, right? Who cares what OS it runs on?
No, they literally just bought Dell PCs and hooked them up. I saw them doing that when I went to get my books over the summer. They were still hooking up the PCs. I honestly don't care what a school computer's OS is but it just bugs me on how ridiculous their choices are.
That's not too bad. My school bought a bunch of Dells a few years ago with Vista business installed. Wiped them all with fresh XP installs.
Dell generally gives schools pretty good deals, that's why a lot of schools get them. Plus they buy in bulk.

No because government schools aren't allowed to by the government.

What's wrong with xp? Download firefox. It's still a new computer (hardware) it's just running old software.

No, there's nothing wrong with XP but the fact is XP is running SP1/2 with IE6. That's what bugs me. It also bugs me that they spent like 50k providing these computers to like 10 schools. I can't download FireFox on them unfortunately since they only give us public student accounts.
Have you even tried to see if a wireless router would work on the connection, it's likely that they made it so you couldn't like on the connections in my uni's student halls.
Download firefox.
yeah 'cause it's not like they'll stop you from installing things on school computers
really what the fuck are you doing in this section

An AP would work. There's no way they can tell the different, other than the fact that more than 1 IPs are going to be sending traffic through the safe switching port. They most likely do something else than "Look for wireless routers!"

People who whine about school computers don't know how corporate IT works.

Our school's got it and there's never any trouble.

I sometimes miss the days of not caring about fucking up a machine because I knew the worst that would happen would be a suspension. Now if I fuck with shit I can lose my job and there's a good chance I wouldn't be able to get back in my field for a while.

Yeah they did that at my school. The only thing is that they are all pentium D's. Even in the drafting\CAD shop.

One room has wireless in my school but it's locked so I can't connect to it.
