It's cool that they got it feature-perfect with the 360 version. I'm just wondering how it runs.
I'm even more curious about the Vita version, though. I may actually buy that one if it's also feature-perfect with the console games.
No Vita/PS4 release is a big downer. I cannot wait for Minecraft Vita. Portable + Actual Controls, and assuming most of the features of the console versions; it'll be glorious.
I still don't understand why you'd ever want to play minecraft on anything but a pc, mods help reduce the incredibly dull vanilla gameplay.

Splitscreen, which is guaranteed fun.

Not everyone finds the vanilla gameplay to be dull, though.
Hell, I surely played creative for 20+ hours back when Minecraft was still in pre-alpha.
Singleplayer survival with perma-death is something I also find to be a fairly creepy and interesting experience.

Everyone has different definitions of "fun."

I dunno, something about playing it on a console feels very fitting. And splitscreen of course.
shame it does lose out on mods though.

I purchased Minecraft on Xbox because a majority of my friends didn't have a computer or one simply good enough to run the PC version at a basic speed. Spending a few hours with just your friends with very little hassle, simply ticking a few options before loading up a world which allows online play is always good in my book.
Sure, the worlds are smaller and it isn't up to date with all the new features from the PC version. But I'll honestly say that I had more fun on the Xbox version and possibly spent more time on it. Though I didn't like the idea of Microsoft asking players to pay up for a couple of skin packs and texture packs. Splitscreen is always fun too if you have buddies round and you have time to kill.
I hope the vita edition has all the updates that the 360/PS3/PS4 does. There really isn't any other reason to other than saying "uhh its not powerful enough" even though power in a game like minecraft (optimized of course) doesn't really need to be that impressive. If anything the map size would be smaller, but I hope not. 1,000x1,000 is already small enough.

Don't underestimate the Vita, it might not have top specs but it can play decent looking games with a good framerate (sans games with crappy porting/optimization (I'm looking at you Jak and Daxter Trilogy)). If Mojang do all the right things it should run like a dream.

That's what my point was. if it's in anyway a downgrade from console versions/pc versions its out of lazyness not a limit on what the vita can do.

4J Studios are going to take on Mojang's work, the Xbox version was a very well done port, they switched the games coding from JAVA to C++ and managed to make it run at 60fps with very little specs to work with.
That's amazing. Is there a platform that Minecraft is not on? They must be racking in loads of dough.
If they have Minceraft running on C++, why does the PC version still run on Java?
I hate Java, It's one of the reasons I gave up on computer science at University.

It isn't on the Wii U. Strangely, I think the Gamepad and the touchscreen would actually be pretty cool for Minecraft. No need to pause to look at inventory and crafting can be done like the PC version.

I imagine the modding community would have to switch over and loads of other little things. 4J Studios rebuilt the game from the ground up using the new code so that they could optimize it properly.
surely its really unwieldy and clunky using a controller for minecraft, i'd feel claustrophobic
Not really, you could probably pull of Garry's mod with a controller if you really wanted to.
I know that Minecraft gets a lot of shit, especially the console versions. But they run very smooth and the coop experience is a blast. It's nice to see that they will port it to the newer consoles.
On the other hand the Vita versions sounds very intruiging, this might really be worth picking up. Being able to play some Minecraft everywhere where you go is a pretty cool thing.

There really is little reason to switch the PC version to C++, not only would it require a total rewrite (the differences between the PC, Console and mobile releases are massive), but it also doesn't seem to be the strong suit of the Mojang programmers.
Assuming they actually take the time to mess with the GC a bit, Java is plenty fast enough for games today, heck, thanks to Hotspot it can occasionally outperform C++ when running massively repetitive code for long periods of time (computing wise anyway, not real time) thanks to on the fly optimisation. Why should they change their entire codebase to suit to preferences of a vocal minority?

Works alright when the game is built for it. Mapping a controller to the PC version is awful, but the console controls are decent enough.
