There were no survivors.
Eight of the victims were French, including celebrated yachtswoman Florence Arthaud, 57, swimmer Camille Muffat, 25, who won gold in the 400 metres freestyle at the 2012 London Olympics and boxer Alexis Vastine, 28, who won bronze in the 2008 Beijing Games.
At France’s National Institute for Sports in Paris, in the presence of grieving family members, tributes were paid to the trio.
And the mourning is set to continue with French Sports Minister Patrick Kanner calling for the three athletes to be remembered this weekend at sporting venues nationwide.[/QUOTE]

Oh holy shit. Yeah I'd be surprised if anyone survived that, that was brutal.
Damn, that's a huge loss.
It bewilders me that anything ever manages to collide into anything else in the sky. I mean, the sky's pretty big, and objects moving around up there have a whole other dimension in which to move around compared with terrestrial objects.
So few of the total number of possible trajectories lead to collision. It's crazy it manages to happen at all (although I'm probably grossly underestimating how many man-made objects are in the sky at any given time).
See france, this is why you don't put all your eggs in one basket (literally). :v:
That must have been scary as all hell going down.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say I'm pretty sure there weren't any eggs in those helicopters.
RIP, what a rough way to go

One was filming the other, so they had to be fairly close together. Normally when you have news helicopters from multiple networks filming something they communicate with each other and each stay at a certain altitude to avoid things like this.
A similar event happened in Phoenix a few years ago.

Inb4 Malvinas.
R.I.P, I remember the accident from Phoenix a couple of years ago involving 2 news choppers.

This has to be one of the most terrifying things to see.
filming with helicopters in close proximity with anything is dangerous, ever since knowing how an actor with a child actor died in the twilight zone movie, helicopter accidents give me the shivers.

2 children actually. It's staggering that something so stupidly dangerous was approved.
