Julia Helene didn’t know that she had been the victim of a crime… until pictures of it were posted on Facebook under a fake profile created in her name. Helene told police in September 2010 that another friend showed her the pictures, and they eventually arrested Reid Jones, a chef from Marblehead, Massachusetts. But it wasn’t until almost a year after his arrest that he was charged with raping Helene, charges that police and prosecutors say were spurred by further evidence they uncovered in the course of investigating the identity theft and photographing an unsuspecting person. He is still free on bail — and still on Facebook, where he reportedly posted joking references to fleeing to France to avoid prosecution last fall. Helene says she believes that Jones drugged her in order to photograph and rape her, posting the pictures in order to embarrass and humiliate her after she told him they could no longer be friends because of his rude and jealous behavior. It took Facebook more than a month to remove the offending profile and pictures, she says, and she would like to see them institute a filtering policy for photographs posted to the site and to change their policies about removing fake profiles.
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/02/17/facebook-asked-to-change-policies-after-man-posts-pictures-of-a-womans-rape/
I feel sorry for the lady, but...
It took Facebook more than a month to remove the offending profile and pictures, she says, and she would like to see them institute a filtering policy for photographs posted to the site and to change their policies about removing fake profiles.
What does this even mean? What does "a filtering policy" entail?
:l
I feel sorry for the lady, but... What does this even mean? What does "a filtering policy" entail?
I think she means like some kind of penis detecting technology that won't let people upload pictures like these. I'm only guessing though.
Helene says she believes that Jones drugged her in order to photograph and rape her, posting the pictures in order to embarrass and humiliate her after she told him they could no longer be friends because of his rude and jealous behavior.
That's just sad.
Don't do drugs, kids.
I think she means like some kind of penis detecting technology that won't let people upload pictures like these. I'm only guessing though.
well that will prevent 80% of the dickheads on FB upload their pictures.
will the penis detecting "filtering technology" work on penises that aren't white? if not i see shenanigans
will the penis detecting "filtering technology" work on penises that aren't white? if not i see shenanigans
What the fuck? How does this have anything to do with race?
What the fuck? How does this have anything to do with race?
I think he's making a joke how that face tracking software on some laptop didn't work on black people
Don't do drugs, kids.
That's the lesson you gained? Why not don't rape people?
because that would make too much sense might cause cranial detonations and shit
SHE WAS ASKING FOR IT!
It's unrealistic for Facebook to hire people that do nothing but verify that every picture uploaded is clean. Also it's an invasion of privacy to have people actively looking at your photos and then approving them. Yeah I know you shouldn't upload photos to Facebook that you don't want to be seen, and I know that by uploading to Facebook they could look at your pictures but the fact is they don't look at your pictures they merely store them. I'm sure millions of photos are uploaded everyday; how are you supposed to look at all of them? It's better to just leave it as a flagging system where people can flag inappropriate pictures then Facebook will step in. These incidents are so rare that it's pointless to do anything beyond that.
But... if she can't remember the rape taking place, how can she remember if she consented or not?
But... if she can't remember the rape taking place, how can she remember if she consented or not?
As much as you're sort of right, the rules change if you're under influence. Probably along the lines of 'not in a solid mental mindset to make the decision of consent, therefore no consent given', in my best law-speak voice.
But... if she can't remember the rape taking place, how can she remember if she consented or not?
Dude, is there a worse thing than this? You're raped without knowing and find out by seeing photos of it on Facebook. She remembered when she saw the pictures of her on Facebook being violated. This guy is a sick fuck. I wouldn't feel so much hate toward him if he uploaded it to some obscure website but uploading it to Facebook where her friends and family can see is just beyond low. Pretty sure that considers as rape seeing as she was blacked out when he violated her.
But... if she can't remember the rape taking place, how can she remember if she consented or not?
YES you are right. The fact that she probably bled from her vagina and had bruises after the incident probably means that she's into BDSM as well, lol
if a picture gets more than 5 (or something like 10% of that person's friends to avoid abuse) flags it should just be isolated and have to be judged by officials at facebook. that doesn't seem hard to implement.
But... if she can't remember the rape taking place, how can she remember if she consented or not?
by your logic you're in the clear as long as you knock someone out before raping them so they can't actually say no
I meant circumstantially. I assumed that they had been on a night out drinking and he had somehow slipped the drugs into her drink or something close to that. I mean, what the fuck happened shortly before she got drugged and when she woke up? Did she just wake up thinking "I feel like i've been sexually assaulted but that's probably nothing"?
I think she means like some kind of penis detecting technology that won't let people upload pictures like these. I'm only guessing though.
But what if my head happens to resemble a penis.

If you drug someone against their will with the intent of having sex with them and then proceed to have sex with them that is rape. End of. Not to mention drugging someone against their will is also illegal.
He gave her a date-rape drug. Pretty sure that considers as rape seeing as she was blacked out when he violated her.
Ok? I'm not disagreeing, merely making a point about the consent thing.
by your logic you're in the clear as long as you knock someone out before raping them so they can't actually say no
Works every time.
How hard would it be to make 5 sockpuppet accounts to flag whatever you want?
How many people on facebook only have 50 friends? Also, who would add 5 of your "sockpuppet" accounts?
My friend's fucking stupid ex boyfriend got drunk and posted pictures he took of her naked years ago and posted them on Facebook. Luckily other friends were awake at 6am for some reason and flagged them multiple times and they were taken down within half an hour. I think Facebook has an adequate system for removing these things already.
