Mexican immigration to United States slows to standstill
(CNN) - Net Mexican immigration to the United States has slowed to a standstill, according to a report released Monday.
The number of immigrants coming from Mexico to the United States has steeply declined while the number of Mexicans leaving the United States has increased sharply, the Pew Hispanic Center said.
"These developments represent a notable reversal of the historic pattern of Mexican immigration to the U.S., which has risen dramatically over the past four decades," the center's report says.
Many factors are probably behind the trend, the report said, including rising deportations, greater enforcement at the border, growing dangers associated with border crossings, the weakened U.S. job market and a long-term decline in Mexico's birth rates.
The 1.37 million Mexican immigrants who came to the United States between 2005 and 2010 was about half the number who immigrated during previous five-year periods, according to the analysis, which was based on national population surveys in the United States and Mexico.
Meanwhile, from 2005 to 2010, 1.39 million Mexicans and their families left the U.S. to return to Mexico, the report says. That's more than double the number of people who did it during a five-year period the decade before, the report says.
The report also notes, citing figures from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, that the number of Mexicans apprehended trying to cross the border illegally has plummeted in recent years, from more than 1 million in 2005 to 286,000 in 2011.
While analysts said for years that immigration from Mexico to the United States was dwindling, the Pew report says 2010 Mexican census data offer some of the first "hard evidence that flows back to Mexico had grown over the same period."
Of course not, them immigrants are coming in the US steal our jobs and taking them back to Mexico.
That is why our economy is so bad, they be taking all the jobs to Mexico, we got to take them jobs back.

I think it's talking about both combined.
i just can't really tell because it doesn't use numbers, aside from arrests.
is this speaking of legal or illegal immigration? wasn't entirely clear from the article
It has to be illegal since people from Mexico don't have a chance in hell of getting legal permission to come here.

Of course not, less of them going through the immigration system means it's more likely that they're an illegal!

Somebody rates him dumb but he's pretty correct.
Immigrants from Mexico don't have much of a chance getting in legally without either a spouse/child in the US or some sort of higher education and skill (the acquisition of which is not feasible for most people in Mexico who would want to immigrate). Someone who would be coming over to work in unskilled, low-wage employment would not get in. And even if they somehow miraculously got their greencard, it would be after a decade of waiting.

Somebody didn't read the article.
oh i know it's extremely difficult to get in legally, which is why i was wondering if they were using that to spin "lol immigration is gone!!!" and people were just giving up trying to get in legally.
Also apparently OP didn't read the article given he's prefacing everything with "I think-".
Fucking, it says it right there. Legal immigration is plummeting, emigration FROM the U.S. is going up and, according to DHS, illegal immigration is similarly plummeting based upon the fact that the number of detainees at the border has gone down to like 25% of what it was prior. And no, it's not because Mexicans are getting sneakier. We aren't that sneaky.
They probably realized there are already way to many taco shops in Southern California. I love tacos and burritos more than most people but I see taco shops all over San Diego. I bet we have more taco shops than TJ.

We will see how they like it, us commin' down there illegally and stuff. Then take our jobs back across the border so good american folk can get it. While we're at it well teach them a lesson and steal their women.

I highly doubt it has anything to do with that. More then likely due to the economy menial jobs which were taken by the immigrants legal or otherwise, are now being filled by office workers who have been laid off. It's much easier to higher someone who's legal than it is to keep an illegal onboard. I'm curious if European countries are seeing a fall off of immigration aswell.

Oh yes, and they're much better than TJ burritos, too.
Quick everybody move out of America before it collapses. That's what I am going to do at least.

In the city where the California Burrito rules all, there can never be too many taco shops.
